Hi Deek-The-Geek here from Tayside . Not long had my Norge 1200 , got it cheap enough due to some stuff to fix . But the main one so far is no charge getting to the battery . So , the bottom accessory fairings are off I’m on to the middle fairings now , which looks like I have to take the dash infill panel off to get to some screws holding the middle fairing off . All this is to access the generator so I can get a multimeter on the generator output looking for 40/50 volts . If no voltage is it the belt , the connectors or the generator at fault . Any clues and advice to the right road as to getting it fixed would , putting mildly brilliant .
I think a Norge has an alternator rather than a generator. The rectifier/regulator is all built in on an alternator.
You would expect about 14.5V on the output of the alternator - there should also be a heavy duty fuse somewhere between the alternator and the battery (40 to 50A at a guess) I would find and check the fuse first.

Hi Russel out in the garage now , fuses ok . Battery voltage is 12 . 6 with key off , when started it rises to 13 .7 , but then falls to the battery voltage . Is this normal on a Norge or is the belt slipping on the alternator , or maybe the built in rectifier is faulty ? . Derek . Just got this bike .
What does the voltage do if you rev the engine a little ?
Russell
Hi , back again , it seems to rise by 0.2/0.4 volts it sits at 13.6/7 v.
It seems that the alternator is working, i would have expected a slightly higher voltage circa 14V but I dont know how accurate your meter is. The belt may be a bit slack, worth checking anyway to check condition and tension. Also worth checking the connections from the alternator to the loom and onwards to the battery, could just be a dirty connection.
Start the engine, turn on the lights, indicators etc and measure the voltage again at the battery at ~ 2000 rpm - does it produce 13.7v while loaded with the lights
Russell
Hi , ye , on full beam and indicators on if I keep the revs to about 2000 it sits at 13.6/7 v . I think you’re right , it is working . I’ll give all a clean anyway and seeing as half the fairings are off anyway I’ll check the belt tension , is it easy ! By the way Russel my new battery just arrived Motobatt Qudflex MBTX30U , the one that is in is 19ah battery . Back to the belt tension , all panels off except the cowling , would that be correct .
Hi
I have no idea how to get to the alternator, never owned a later model guzzi or a Norge specifically, best have a look at the workshop manual.
should be able to find one here
Diagnosing electrical issues is more my forte - but it does look like the charging is ok
happy to help

Thanks for your help Russel , the 30 a/h is going back , no way will it fit , I’ll ask Tanya for a bigger A/H rating on my size . Cheers , Derek .
You’re welcome
Russell
Thanks , elektrickery is not exactly my forte , more mechanical and oily is mine .
Tanya supplied me with a Yuasa ytx20h-bs,
with 310 CCA, for my Norge 8v. Massive improvement, highly recommended!
Hi , yes been on the site today , came up with this , Motobatt , MBTX24U power sport quad flex AGM battery . It is rated at 25 AH , the overall sizes are the same as the standard battery for the Norge except the LENGTH which is 205mm . I’ve double checked this time and it will fit in . Made a mistake and ordered a 32 AH battery , it was far too wide , so it goes back tomorrow and I’ll get my correct one . Bit of a 'mare , but getting there . Cheers for the heads up .
