Good tearooms, cafes on your ride outs

Amanda’s Kitchen. Van in a lay-by on the A361 Frome, Somerset, bypass between Oldfield and Bedington. Friendly biker lady with free tea/coffee for bikers. Good grub.

And If you are Cornwall way and like American Diners
I can recommend Jenn’s Diner in Redruth https://www.jennsdiner.co.uk/

It seems they even do bikenights

Sturgate Airfield Cafe, Gainsborough DN21 5PA Nice quiet cafe with seats and tables on grass in front of the airfield.

Is there a way to put them on a communal web-based map?

I’ve done similar with Google maps layers in the past. Happy to help if needs be.

The Silver Fox Cafe,
Newnham,
GL14 1JA

On the A48. Good food, and tea in plentiful supply. A bikers cafe.

April 2023: Sadly, it looks like Joe’s is no more ):

J G M Snack Bar - A41 Eastbound (near OnYerBike) just short of Aylesbury

Joe’s is a ‘roadkill’ van in a large layby, just before you get into Aylesbury ‘proper’, heading East. If you’ve been to OnYerBike, don’t use their van, whip up the road to Joe’s (through Waddesdon, on until just past the turn for Aylesbury Parkway Station). I’m pretty sure that Joe is actually Guiseppe, as he’s Italian - a car enthusiast, but he appreciates a Guzzi for what it is.

Burger baps, Sausage and Egg in a bun, mug of tea - that sort of fare, and it’s all good stuff, safe to eat (which can’t be said for every ‘roadkill van’ eh), and great value for good portions. He gives a postcode of HP18 0PS - which, according to Google Maps, lands you just opposite his van.

Edit: Oh, he generally knocks off just after lunch time - but opens very early doors, I think. Sometimes there on a Saturday morning, never on a Sunday!

Seascape Cafe at North Sea Observatory

I have an idea and would like to know what others think:

I used to cycle a fair bit with a chap called Andy Kirby who developed and maintained this interactive cyclists cafe map all by himself: Cafe / Cycle Shop Dynamic Map- CTC York Web-site. If you zoom out you’ll see the cafe’s he’s identified as cycle friendly from Dunfermline to Norwich - he cycled a LOT!

He used to have the map set up so that if you clicked on a cafe on the map it would tell you name, postcode and opening times, but clearly he finally got a life! Now you have to select the ‘cafe by town’ tab and that’ll tell you most things you need to know.

If we collectively could do a biker friendly version then I can see it being a useful, very visual and searchable reference resource for trip planning and touring (esp when in unfamiliar territory), but it would need someone with mapping skills (which I simply don’t have) to create and maintain it.

If it was felt to be a worthwhile undertaking, I’d be happy to compile a starter for ten local list for my patch (East and North Yorkshire) as I have a list of about thirty biker friendly cafes within a fifty mile radius, but I bet there are plenty of other good cafes I don’t know about, so I think this would need a team effort.

Would it be a worthwhile undertaking or too much hassle and does anyone on the forum have the mapping skills, time and appetite to coordinate such an undertaking if others sent in details of cafes they recommend?……what do you think?

UK Biker Cafes is already on Facebook - is that the type of thing you’re thinking of?

I’ve never been on Facebook, which could explain a lot! If it’s information freely available somewhere else that’s far simpler….for those that use social media!:+1:

Tasha’s Artisan Coffee Shop, Kelvedon Road, Wickham Bishops, Essex CM8 3LY here on farcebook
Open 10-3 Thursday - Sunday,

Best when it is not raining as it is outdoors!

Monkey Pot, riccall airfield industrial estate, Selby YO8 5LD. Hidden away down an industrial estate road but what a treat, wonderful bacon buttys and nice people too. Always made to feel welcome :+1:

And Ma Bakers at the services on the A47/A41 junction
Very bike friendly but doesn’t get overwhelmed

There’s also the biker guide: Biker Friendly Meeting Places | Cafes, pubs, hangouts, etc...

Responding to the Shobden aerodrome post.

Especially the old road to Shrewsbury with the castles on it :ok_hand:.

And the run down to Chepstow down the old back roads to Monmouth then across the traffic lights to Tintern, then Chepstow.
