Hi all - Griso 1100 08, running really nicely but has occasional click no crank. It has the wiring mod (battery to relay) and a new battery fully charged. It does a louder than relay (solenoid?) click, a few seconds wait then another click. (Starter button usually only needs pressing briefly and continues on to start bike. (Auto start ?) the ‘no start’ might happen once or twice then it will start fine. Any thoughts like solenoid issue or starter motor needs cleaning ? Cheers if you have a solution👍
Update - After i posted this i found post by Mackers1 with the article about just this issue
I’m not convinced the ‘basic’ Startus Interruptus fix is enough.
The issue (usually) is the lack of Current reaching the Small Terminal on the Starter Solenoid.
My solution is to feed that from a 40Amp Relay, which takes it’s 12V supply from the Upper Solenoid Post.
The original Wire that went to the Small Terminal just ‘fires’ the Relay, and that only needs a very small Current.
There was also a Service Bulletin concerning a build up of Crud in the front of the Starter Motor, which could prevent the Solenoid going full-travel, so the main Contact (between the upper and lower Posts) would fail to ‘make’.
Lastly, burnt/charred Contacts can also prevent the Motor turning over, they don’t last forever.
On my 2009 Stelvio Starter, the Solenoid End-Cap is Swaged in place, so it’s not technically possible to dismantle it to check/clean/replace the Contact Strip and/or Post Terminals.
