Guzzi keys inc transponder

Available mail order this question does keep cropping up take a look here.

They can even cut a key from GOOD digital photo’s 1 member has had this done with good result. guzzibear2012-01-14 12:27:53

That is very useful GB, better than £740+ for a new dash, ignition barrel, fuel cap, seat lock and key for a Breva/Griso. This is the reason I have key insurance for the car and bike. G.

You have key insurance?
How many times have you lost a key?

Only once, for an MZ 175, for which a small screwdriver sufficed, have left keys in ignition, in seat lock and on seat once in Swansea docks, have got away with it so far! More to the point it also covers you if the electronics fail which is bound to happen one day.G.

Amazed you were left with anything in Swansea Duffo

I sent a photo of my non transponder Guzzi key to keysinthepost.com and received a new one (that worked) in less than 48 hours.

recently bought an 06 breva and on day of delivery my mate came round for a look and snapped the ignition key , any way got a replacement from a lovely lady at twiggers in nottingham, she was on her way to a party here in ireland and actually hand delivered the new key , some service ( and a big thankyou)
anyway my question is how do i programme the key to the bike?would appreciate some help thanks.

can you stick a picture on my breva has no transponder in the key
I have a seperate imobilzer unit

I misplaced one of my stelvio keys and bought a key blank from twigger which I got cut , I then rang twiggers and found them to be very helpful as he ran me through the process of getting the bike to register it. Top blokes very impressed by their serviceRegards Keith

Never mind insurance for the key, wouldn’t insurance for the vehicle be void if key left in/with it? My car insurance would be void if I just left a window open a bit (pretty sure I read it somewhere).

Hi there,

new to this forum and a new guzzi owner I wonder if you could help with this. Have found a fault with my ECU (Breva 750 2003) in that it would not cycle the fuel pump on start up, unless I waggled the wiring loom near to the ECU plug. Have just bought a used ECU but will need to match my key to this. Is there any way to do this or do I need to send it to a specialist company. I have the Red shiny key as well as a spare which I would like to continue using, there is no key with the replacement ECU. Thanks in anticipation. BFF

The 750 breva does not have a transponder in the key, any immobilizers are fitted separately and you will have a separate plip.

Thanks for your reply, does that mean I can fit the replacement ECU and use my original key? Cheers BFF

Yes it should swap ok, the keys are not paired to the ecu. It sounds as though there may be a bad connection somewhere rather than the ecu at fault. You have replaced the most expensive part first!

Club membership is well worth the money

Hi there,

Thanks for your advice, yes it was an expensive part but was advised by a mechanic that the ECU was at fault.

Many thanks once again! BFF

A far cheaper option for getting a spare key cut is to just do what I did last week (previous owner had mislaid the original spare key) and take your existing key to your local Timpson. It’s been stated here somewhere that they don’t do bike keys. They do, and if they don’t happen to have a Guzzi blank in, they have a catalogue of bike blanks and can get one in next day. As for the transponder, no problem, Timpson stock them, and the common transponder Guzzi use can be cloned as opposed to copied.
One key costs a reasonable £40, and £20 for any extra ones.

Keys for breva 1100
Here’s my bit on keys. I got two blanks from in moto @£45. Local locksmith cut them for £15 and I followed the instuctions on the bikes computer. And low and behold it worked! I had broken one key and could not risk having only one left. Got three now!

cloning keysÂ

DON’T DO IT .

it will cause problems later in life . trust me .

Google Mel Robinson, he lives outside Glasgow but repairs ECU’s etc.
You may get some of your money back with a repaired item.
Or keep it and sell it to me if mine goes wrong.

Dragging this back up in case it helps anyone.

Timpson’s did a key for me recently, for my '09 Stelvio.
I ordered a pair, as I thought I was down to just one key (found the spare one as soon as I’d got the replacement done).
They quoted me £60 each, but the Guy messed one up, so gave me the one good one for £50.

As quoted above, if they don’t have the Guzzi Blanks in, they can usually get them next-day.
You need a working Key for them to cut and clone the new one from.
