Hostel accomodation in scotland

I am looking ahead to October 2015. Planning a trip to the West Coast and the Highlands. Having been there before in October, I know the weather can be brilliant, but not always.
Taking my godson as a pillion, we are limited to his half term holiday and for the time of year, we reckon bricks and mortar (or timber) makes more sense than lugging our camping gear along.
Any particular recommendations? We prefer not to be way up a track in some glen, miles from anywhere, and would like to be somewhere that gives us a choice of different directions for touring around.
How soon do such places get booked up?

Two places we have stayed at:-

Stayed at Tyndrum on the way to Sleeperzzz. Then 2 nights there and returned to Tyndrum for one night on the way back.

Sleeperzzz is basic but clean and very friendly welcome.
Can recommend both.cycleruk2014-09-04 19:49:41

We stayed here at Roy Bridge last September for the National Rally of Scotland. Simple, clean and comfortable - 150yds to Station and nearest pub but still quiet.Good value and a friendly owner.
