Key coding V100 topbox locks with ignition key

Hi all, great site and enjoying the content.

I ordered the touring top box (brand new) with my V100 Stelvio from the main dealer. The topbox had a faulty/broken seal. The dealer agreed to replace the topbox. The dealer after a very slow response informed me the lock from my original topbox (which was coded to the ignition key) could not be fitted to my replacemnt topbox as it is “a one time install and to remove it would break things”.
Anyone have any experience with a similar situation? IF this is a fact it just warns you all if you have this kit and coded to your ignition key that topbox stays with the bike for life as the locks can’t be RE-coded??? I owned numerous BMWs’ and this was a very straightforward procedure to change, replace coded locks…
Any advice greatly appreciated. It has taken THREE MONTHS so far to (still not) resolve! Getting monotinous now and not had a topbox which (I wanted to use daily) since taking delivery of my new bike…

Hello Scossi, is it possible to send me some photos of the lock ,front and back, also does the original ignition key slide into the cylinder if so that means it’s the same section .
I’m a retired locksmith and would be happy to help.

Hi Roy. Many thanks for the reply.
If it gets that far I’ll send pics of the lock.
Possibly not what you are asking?- Since the bike was new I’ve only got the two (original) ignition keys and the top box/panniers had the locks coded to these keys. I’m nearly 500 miles away from the bike dealer I purchased the Stelvio from so I have not seen the new topbox they intended to exchange my old one for. They have basically pulled out the rubber seal from the topbox lid, done the same with the ‘new’ topbox, then sent me back my original box with a new rubber seal pushed into place. I’m not happy with this fix and am seeking a complete refund as it was all addressed within my 30 day consumer rights for faulty, not fit for purpose goods. The first time I used the topbox the rubber seal came away from its seating when I opened it and the seal had two different bits hanging out of the lid! Expect more from a £570 topbox…
