Just taken my (new to me) 1973 850GT for a first blast and dismayed to discovered Ive lost a baffle from the nearside Lafranconi silencer. To be precise a Lafranconi 10 DGM-10172S. Has anyone out there ever replaced a baffle in one of these… I see that ebay has quite a variety of universal baffles available. Advice please on whether its possible or do I have to replace the whole system… and on that note has anyone got a silencer for a Loop ie with ballancer kicking around they want to sell!?
Many thanks
David
Hello David, I had exactly the same thing happen on my 850GT. I found the best thing was to remove the baffle on the good side and get a pair of VW beetle end pipes.
I then made up a metal bush to take up the difference and it worked OK, and the end pipes are chrome so they look OK.
Armours of Bournemouth make a really good stainless system for the loops but they are a bit pricey. I have had my set for over 25yrs and they still look like new.
Reminds me of my old RD400.. occasionally the bolt would work loose and a baffle would fire itself out the back, luckily the change in exhaust note meant I got a bit of notice allowing me to stop and run back down the road to find it
Not sure how pricey, but these folk seem to have a lot of parts..
Measure the baffle diameter required (from your existing baffle) and have a search on ebay etc, you’re sure to be able to find a suitable candidate to replace the missing one. Ive had to do this on several occasions over the years. A bit of loctite on the baffle bolt threads will help prevent reoccurence.

Thanks guys for all your advice… I bought some from eBay but they made no difference to the overall volume… despite being billed as ideal for a classic bike etc… so I got a fabricator to copy the remaining one and make me 2 new ones which are working well…Phew! Prices of replacement lafranconis scary…
