le mans keys

Can anybody tell me if the keys to the ignition and petrol tank locks are the same, I have no keys (that work) at the moment and it is easier to send away the lock off the tank, for a key to be made. I have had a key made (keys in the post)to the code on the ignition, but hasn’t worked for sme reason!

Which Le Mans?

Le mans 2

it will be more than 33 years old which is more than enough time for ign switches to have been replaced a few times and maybe likewise the petrol tank lock so while the keys would have been the same when new the odds are they are not now.

Good point, hadn’t thought of that, will have to get ign. barrel out, got the clocks off but cant see how the barrel is held in place

On my mk111 it is a round knurled nut.
I would find out the cost of a new barrel. They’re not that expensive from memory.

Yes, will probably go that way. Thanks

And whilst your in there reroute the feed to the staterr solonoid through a relay as per Brian’s advice would be good.

from what I remember from my old Mark 2 you need to remove the rubber surround, the red wire into the rear of the switch is live when the switch is turned on, not sure re when the switch is in the off position so maybe disconnecting the battery might be a good idea.

Yes, will try again with the rubber surround. Thanks for info.

See note re Twiggers they are brill with replacement keys. the blank for the real older Tonti ign are a Fiat “Zadi” blank …take org key to kiosk tell em it is a Fiat/Zadi blank.

The post is pinned above by the way

I do know Twiggers have had keys cut from a digital picture and the key code for newer bikes…

I have no business interest whatsoever in twiggersguzzibear2012-10-16 18:55:19

On my le mansII it’s the same key for ignition and tank.
