Le Mans MK1 lifting handle wanted

Anyone got a lifting handle for a MK1 Le Mans? Part 13 shown in picture.

Thanks again guys!

By the way, just so you know, it doesn’t look much like that drawing. And there’s a spacer that goes behind one end, I think it’s the top, because the other end clamps the brake manifold splitter.

Good luck.

Great thank you. I’ve had several bikes where the lifting handles have been removed and now I’m getting on a bit, I can’t understand why

There is one in this photo click here that looks different to the parts book one.

Best wishes Chris

Here’s a picture of what it looks like. Note the cylindrical steel spacer between the handle and the washer over the shock silentbloc bush, at the top.
Unfortunately, I’ve never been able to find it in the parts book. On the suspension page, they list the two bolts as being different lengths to cope with it.

Thanks Andy, that’s very clear what I’m looking for :+1:

Harpers Moto Guzzi in the States are listing the handle for sale at around $15. The postage wouldn’t be too bad on a tiny item like that. I would message them before ordering to be sure it is correct.

It looks about right but I agree with Don, contact them first to check. :+1:

It looks correct. The other thing to do ( because I can tell you’re trying to ā€˜originalise’ this machine ) is to ask about that spacer.

Or get one made, internal diameter to suit the bolt + 1mm, outside diameter ID + about 20mm, thickness looks like about 12mm. Second thoughts better to get someone to measure one.

I have had made spacers for my bike in stainless, not an expensive exercise when you have a friend with a lathe.

That’s great guys, I’ll contact Harper Moto this week and share what they say. Thanks again.

Hi all I was looking for a lifting handle for my spada, buf couldn’t find one, improvised, using a folding foot rest.

If you can find one, @andymay , go for it. My 1000SP roadster came with one of these fitted (by a P.O.) and it makes humping the bike onto the centre stand an absolute doddle. Well worth the effort of tracking one down, in my opinion.

Either than, or buy my 1000SP off me, whip the ā€œlifting handleā€ off and sell the bike on :joy:

I’ll be honest, I find it hard enough to get it on the stand WITH the handle, which mine always had. I’d be lost without. I didn’t think it’d be possible to track one down. But you’ve got to love Harper’s, they have all sorts of things that we thought had long gone.

in my experience, it’s all about where you put your foot. some people expect to be able to lever the bike onto the stand by placing their foot onto the ā€œlocating lugā€. hernia territory !

it’s also the case that the centre stand feet can lose their profile, in which case a bit of weld (or other approach) can transform that particular operation.

My friend found a Mille GT lifting handle and fitted it to his Le Mans 2 quite easily. It swings out more and folds away, I think it is easier to grab and use as well.

My LM MK2 does not have a spacer.

The lifting handle comes in two shapes - the one shown by Andymay was on the LM I and earlier versions of the II, whilst that shown by Fairytail is for the later II. The earlier handle has the effect of sliding the lifters hand into a narrow gap and crushing the fingers. The later lifting loop is more ā€œDā€ shape and doesn’t do this. I’ve never seen a spacer here although I have used a thicker washer.

You’re absolutely right. I hadn’t noticed the difference in the pics until you mentioned it.
LM1 part is 14464351, the later LM2 part is 14464355.

The LM2 parts book has a much more realistic drawing of that handle.

I have both on two different LMs and my fingers bear testament to the horrors of the early version.

Don’t get me started on the variations in side stands …
