I’m troubleshooting a non working horn on a 1981 850 T4. One horn had shorted, the other was open circuit. The wiring from the fuse box and wiring harness ground have all checked out OK so I’ve split the left hand handlebar switch. I’ve read online that you can take apart the flasher/horn rocker switch. Has anyone actually done this?
Yes but 20 years ago - all i can say is do it over a big table with a towel on so that all the bouncy/jumpy bits MAY slow down before disappearing under the skirting board
IF you don’t lose anything (to quote Haynes) “reassembly is the reverse of dissassembly” sorry if that is not reassuring
Yes but it didn’t really go back together well. It was a few years ago and I chose to buy replacement sets from Nik Wallis.
I think the problem was the aging plastic box around the switch didn’t go back together as tightly as I would have liked and theres not a lot of room for error.
Johnny is right, there is a “Jack in the box” ball bearing in there waiting to escape.
Guzzi horn circuits work by the button completing the circuit to earth. Power flows through both horns then up to the handlebar switch. You can test the circuit by identifying the horn button wire in the headlight and briefly earthing it out (with the ignition on) to see if the horns make a sound.
