Hi everyone !
After owning a LeMans ‘78 for the past few years I am only now leaning towards changing out the dreaded suicide side stand. I read somewhere awhile back that the “ Brown “ stand ( I think actually for BMW’s ? ) are the one to go with. I can ‘t remember the supplier of them though - somewhere here in the U.S. which will be easier for me. Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated - thanks in advance !
Boxerworks is the name you are looking for, they make them in batches so you need to call or email to see what the latest info is. I have had 3 over the years 4 if you count the one dhl lost in the post !!!
If you are in the states you are lucky, not sure if they are happy posting to the UK now.
Gino
I just came across a link to the stand whilst looking for something else!
Way too rich for my tastes once you factor in getting it to the UK. Post is USD100 then add 20% VAT. Plus any custom fees on top. Knocking on for £450 by the time it gets to yiur door…
Why dont you just fit a LeMans IV Sidestand Bracket and then you can also retain the original Stand.
Thanks Gino for stumbling across it for me lol .!! I’ll search them and check into them. I think there’s mention of them on the “ This old tractor “ website. Cheers again : )
Thanks also to you too @Don-Spada - I believe that is the picture I see many moons ago. Maybe I didn’t buy at the time due partly to the price but mainly the aesthetics. I will re-visit the website.
Many thanks to everyone and happy hol’s !!
Many moons ago there was a sidestand which was made by Astico which uses a 1970s Triumph leg fitted to an adapter which uses the usual front engine bolt.I had one fitted to my 1975 T3 for many years and worked very well but obviously the later LeMans is probably different.
I have one for sale which is unused and will need minor fettling ,£60 plus p and p if anyone is interested. Eddie
Honda ST1300 leg mounted on a 8mm plate. I had to bend the Honda mount up a few degrees
And I added the kickdown for ease of use but the result is s rock solid. This is on my Spada but Le Mans will be the same.
Apologies fir the late reply…. I fitted the ,70,s side stand to both my tonti framed bikes. Very easy mod, using the original side stand mount and very stable.
Just dont forget to flip it up,before riding off.
No worries for the late reply. I have found the stand at the Boxerworks website. - cost is around $350 U.S. - still debating … so I imagine the stand fits at the same original location which is quite far forward to reach with the leg while sitting on the bike, or is it to a different location further back.?? Will it also hit the Lafranconi pipe.??
Cheers and Happy New Year : )
It fits in the middle of the bike, just below the footrests, see the images in this thread,
The Guzzi stand fitted to the LeMans 4 & 5, the SP3 and some T5’s had a similar arrangement. I have one on my SP1000
