After an argument with a pothole I needed to order a new front wheel. Ordered the wheel from the dealer I bought the bike from thinking they would have my bikes details on record and first they ordered a black wheel, now a bright gold one has turned up. The dealer appears to be in denial that the Mandello Aviazione Navale wheels are a lighter shade of gold with a Matt finish and now we are having a Mexican stand off. while my bike languishes on its maintenance stands as it has since March.
I can’t find any specific details on line that specify the correct colour wheel for the Aviazione Navale special edition and I’m struggling to find a contact at Moto Guzzi UK that could conform I am right, although if the dealer can’t sort it out, what hope do I stand?
Recently I landed a failed first MOT on my Mandello for a near invisible distended rim! Was not causing any issues or, in my view, ever likely to but the box was ticked! I decided to go for a new wheel though the ‘damaged’ one would likely have been an easy straighten. I got mine through a company called MSP in the Netherlands within 2 weeks from Piaggio.
Their website identified the exact gold replacement but I verified by comparing the part code on their pic with the stamped code on the wheel. Was just over£250 delivered VAT and import included which was less painful than I expected.
I still have the replaced wheel, not sure whether the correct gold but if it was and wanted to get it straightened you can have it for postage only. Just a thought. The damage was near impossible to see and figure would have been simple to eliminate. Good luck whatever you manage to work out.
Well the plot thickens. The part number on the wheel is correct, the label also says it is Satin Yellow but the colour is obviously wrong as it is bright gold - love to know what Moto Guzzi call the bright gold colour? Piaggio say they can only supply Black or Gold Wheels and despite having a specific part number for the Aviazione Navale, you get sent the same Gold wheel as fitted to the rest of the range.
I’ve got a couple of 1970’s Ducati Bevels and we used to laugh that you never quite knew what part was fitted or what you would get as half of them were parts bin specials, but I honestly thought Moto Guzzi were better than that!
Such a shame as it is one of the finest bikes I have owned in 45 years of riding.
…and I’m sure it is still a fine bike whatever the colour of the new wheel is.
The factory is the smallest in the industry and parts like wheels are interchangeable between models, so talk to them if your dealer hasn’t, I’m sure it is resolvable. Maybe ask them to pay for the gold wheel to be sprayed to match what you want if they can’t find one?
Just bye the bye.. assuming you get a new wheel my advice is get you a set of titanium or stainless disc bolts at the same time. When I was changing mine over had two swiss cheese disc bolts shear on me! Drilled and extracted out no problem but the OEM’s are poor quality.
It does look the right colour in the picture. Much paler than the standard model Gold. All the disk bolts came out OK, although I’ve been caught out before so used an impact driver and impact bits to initially crack them off. Still going to replace them though but not with stainless ones as I’ve had so called high tensile stainless stretch on me even when torqueing to the correct Nm.
Well sure is a puzzle. I’m assuming you bought the bike new? No possibility it’s been repainted I guess? That wheel is off my 2023 standard Mandello. The close up is the barely visible distortion that got my MOT failed. Interestingly the MSP site parts search specifically includes the Aviazione as the same part number as the Piaggio replacement I got. I wonder if someone has used some kind of cleaner or polish that has attacked the finish? Mine is indeed the standard model gold and the new wheel a perfect match??

Keith seems to be seeing a colour discrepancy between his wheels and what the dealership sourced. Oddly he said in his last comment the pics there he thought looked like his?? The replacement I got from Piaggio looks exactly like the original in the pics. I am unconvinced there is actually some subtly different offering out there or if there is I can’t find it?? Thus I am forced to query the history of the bike or it’s storage or something that has dulled it apparently. Strange one!
looking at the guzzi website they all seem to be the paler colour, now I’m starting to doubt my own memory, i had an image in my mind of wheels similar colour to the forks on the V100S.
