Mandello Waterleak

So, nine months since purchase and 2000 miles and the Mandello has a water leak. See picture. Dealer says it’s not common but easy to find examples on the net. Apparently it’s likely to just require a jubilee clip but will take the dealer three hours to get to the offending item.

I wonder how much it has cost Guzzi in warranty work to fix these cheap clips? You would think they would have rushed an upgrade through to production ASAP as 3 hrs labour is a good few quality clips isn’t it.

I’m afraid it is remarkably common. I had same issue surface in Campbeltown. Long way to ride down monitoring coolant level. I don’t think the clips are cheap; reckon they’re quality. But as the rubber hose ages slightly it relaxes the tension on the clip. So maybe just slightly the wrong size, or need a different type. Either way, yes, the warranty bill is high, but I think the dealers end up eating a fair bit. Piaggio don’t pay them much for warranty hours.
They just used a Jubilee clip on mine, rather than the Clic’R that was on there.

So far the biggest pain is I rang Moto Guzzi Assist at 9.30 this morning, assured an RAC patrol would come despite me saying it’s just to be recovered to the dealership, by the time I actually spoke to an RAC person who better understood the situation and organised a sub contracted recovery company it’s too late for the bike to go to the dealer today. So now I have to wait another day for it to be collected and just to emphasise my confidence in the recovery company the gentleman from said company asked me if it’s a motor bike ? Ggrrrr.

I feel your pain. I had a major front suspension failure on my car a couple of weeks ago, ended up against the opposite kerb with the front wheel at a very painful angle.
Phoned the AA whose automated system directed me to an online report system, and despite me making it as clear as it would allow that this was a major failure and that the car was undriveable, they first sent a patrol van who could tell there was nothing he could do before he even got out of his van. Fortunately the recovery truck came pretty soon after that, and despite fearing that he would do more damage hauling it backwards onto the flat-bed, he did a great job with no further damage.

They are not all down to the clips. Mine was due to a warped thermostat housing, the two halves of which turned out to be missing the required O-ring between them!

Mine was something similar to that as well. The casing distorted.

So bike has sat in the dealers since mid may but supposedly will be fixed this Tuesday. However, Im going to Mandello on Wednesday so cant pick the bike up for a few weeks, my emails to dealer not being answered etc etc. This is my sixth Guzzi since 1982 and I kinda hoped for better. Still, if they fix it and I have a year or two of reliable operation I’m sure all will be forgiven.

The timing is awful for you and the dealer does not seem very responsive?
If it is good to avoid them - which county are they in?

My impression is just that their worshop time is precious. I’ve had to take the panniers back because of faulty locks twice and they have sorted them fairly swiftly but of course such niggles are a pain. Lack of dealers to choose from is of course a pain.
