Me needles have gone PINK - Cali 1995

The needles on the tach and speedo are now a fetching shade of PINK rather than manly RED

\

Can they be fixed or is it a major PITA to get the bezels off and paint them?

If yours are the same as mine were on the SPIII and v50, then you can get the bezels off, but it is fiddly. Place it face down on something solid (on a cloth too) and using a thin flat blade screwdriver work round the underside of the bezel to spread it, so that it will come off the housing.Getting it back on can be more of a challenge. Others may know a better method.

Pink is good to go, especially during the winter where it gives a contrast to the tweedy look that is in over the drab winter months.

If you ARE considering levering the bezel rings off, it is a good idea to fit a large jubilee clip,(worm drive clip), round the edge of the speedo. Once you tighten the clip down snuggly it will keep the bezel ring from becoming misshapen as you lever the edging up with a small screwdriver to get it off.
The last thing you need is your ring misshapen;

You may have to slacken it a touch once all the edges are levered up to let it slide off.

When putting the chrome ring back on, place the bezel ring over the speedo face, tighten down the jubilee clip and start folding the edges over, a wooden dowel is good for this, if you haven’t got one use something with a flat heel, try and not use the screwdriver you used to take it off as the area of the screwdriver is quite small and you could tear the bezel.

When folding the edges down I always start at, say 12 o’clock (position on dial not the Greenwich Mean Time ), then opposite at the 6, then onto the 9 and 3 o’clock positions, that way it keeps it central.

It’s fairly simple.

IMPORTANT!!!

Check that the bezels don’t just SCREW off!!!

I’ve never had to take a Guzzi one off so check first.

Good Luck

Steady Comrade, inflammatory comments such as those could see you whisked off in the dead of night and your posts consigned to box 13 !

Just for the record, I like the Pink needles as they match the carnation on my leather jacket.

I have taken the bezel off the V1000 BUt they never seem to go back on. SO when I got the last swap done I took it to an instrumentaion specialist who resealed it for not alot of dosh. The V11 needles have also faded so It will have them sorted, alot less than having to buy another instrument.

UV light does that, and what are the chances of it happening again?

I’d say it’s terminal and the only answer is to get a classic (round barrel) Guzzi with white needles!

You obviously also need UV filtered glass.

Again, what are the chances of the instrument makers doing that

Cheers everyone

Thats pretty much what I thought but I’m a bit leary about levering the bezzles off and them looking like a dogs breakfast when they go back on

Can you get replacement bezels from anywhere

Use the jubilee clips, they keep the bezels in shape.

That’s a good tip actually.

OK wont the bit underneath still be chewed up a bit?

You lever it up with your screwdriver to open it out, do what you are going to do with the speedo , put the bezel back on and press the edge you levered up back down with a flat edge.
It will not go on as smooth as the factory, BUT, it’s underneath the and once the speedo is back in it’s cup or dash it won’t be seen.
Your main concern is keeping your bezels from becoming misshapen and the jubilee will help you accomplish this.
I have done it a few times to replace broken glass and it’s a quick and easy solution to taking the bezels off.

or send them away to be refurbished rather than risk damaging them

As said above, I have also done it a couple of times, and done carefully, with patience, you would not know afterwards that anything had been done.
The trick is, when removing the bezel, to work round it levering a little bit at a time, probably going round two or three times before you have spread it enough to come off. That way you don’t distort the metal.Reassembly is the reverse, as they always say in Haynes manuals. I didn’t use the jubilee clip idea, but I can see the merit of doing so.

OK that sounds do-able I’ll have a look see this winter - Thanks

“The needles on the tach and speedo are now a fetching shade of PINK” after 19 years it is not to bad -if you get some ‘rose tinted glasses’ the problem will go away.

perhaps the needles may be invisible too - excuse when caught speeding ??

THAT’S where the whole plot goes downhill for me patience IS not, sadly, one of my virtues
