Monza front headlamp.

My Monza came from Europe hence the headlamp dips the wrong way (not that the standard bulb could blind anyone) and to date l have a piece of masking tape to get through the mot. I recall reading that one of the small Fiat cars: 126 or perhaps 128 uses the same headlamp. Can anyone confirm this and know whether it is a straight forward change.
Many thanks, Ken

I have certainly heard the same, but only from what I have read on the tinternet.

Yes me too, I will try and find the thread on here. The rectangular Fiat lights also fitted the Strada III.

Thanks for the responses. I will take the light out soon and check the sizes and fitting against the Fiat. If successful I’ll let you know.

From memory it is the 126 but you should check. Have a look at your unit and see if there are any numbers on it to confirm the Fiat part number. Best of luck

Doing a bit of searching around, these might well be involved in the mounting. I recall many years ago, my Le-mans 2 headlight used to come loose as it was held in with some plastic clips.

Same as on my Spada III

Don, thank you for the link. I do recall now that the last time l had the fairing off and the lamp out there were some damaged clips. They held but it would be good to replace them.

Hi All, I have the reverse issue with my UK (now French registered) Breve 750, as I need to change the light unit to a European type.
I was thinking rather than pay over the odds for a Guzzi/moto part, probably Guzzi used a standard part from the automotive industry in the first place, which would make for a less expensive replacement. But that’s as far as I’ve got with it so far, since a) I got it thru the re-registration process without the headlight being checked, and b) I never (well almost never) ride after dark anyway…and c) I have the ‘black electrical tape’ on it for now.
Alex

Not sure about the Breva, but certainly the older Guzzi bikes from the 70’s and 80’s used a standard 7 inch headlight as fitted to Land Rovers, Mini’s, Moggy thousands and numerous other cars over the years.

The lamp used on the Monza is the same as the Fiat 126/7/8 and a few others. It has very specific measurements between the fixing lugs: 163mm by 88mm. These are readily available in the UK with the left hand drive dipped pattern (and h4 upgradeable ) BUT right hand dip are few and far between. When available they are in the region of £80.00-100.00, used and probably rusty. Puzzled as to who buys the left hand dip lamps in the UK🤔. I know what I’m after now so will wait until a good one appears. Thanks for the help.

Interesting - I’m guessing they weren’t H4 fittings though…HMB in Germany list an H4 180mm unit, but apparently (I asked) it’s not compatable with the Breva.
I might end up taking the unit to the nearest car parts shop and seeing what they come up with.
Alex

Plenty of 7 inch H4 headlights available Here is one picked off ebay at random. Make sure it has a pilot light, not all car ones do.

I dont think the Breva dips to the left, I think that it is already Europea dipping, certainly mine just does up and down and does not seem to be handed , never had a problem at night riging in Europe

Hi Rapheal,
I’m not sure about mine, since I never ride at night, and I never checked it although the pattern on the reflector doesn’t look quite symetrical.
Anyway, I picked up a suitable unit at an autojumble over here for 2 euros, and have installed that for now.
