My (possibly faulty) memory says the brush plate isn’t quite the same because the airhead starter motor revolves in the opposite direction to the Guzzi version.
You’re right. Engine turns same way, but starter is fitted over the engine, not gearbox, hence opposite spin.
Hmm,surely direction of rotation wouldn’t make any difference on the brush holder.
There are a lot of differences that I recall between the airheads and Guzzis. Although the starter motor looks externally identical, the bendix engagement has more and smaller teeth, plus the brush plate has a cutout where the Guzzi one doesn’t and (having checked) the one on Motorworks website looks nothing like the Guzzi version. I admit I only checked the 80/7 as I’ve only worked on that and the 100/7.
