Hi, new to the club ( just joined today!) and already I’d like a little help from the clubs knowledge collective. What mark of V35 have I got? Engine number is PC12986, frame PD11177. It’s got drilled front brake discs, handle mounted master cylinder, say’s V35 II on the side, but seems to have Bosch electronic ignition? Any thoughts anyone?
I thought that the electronic ignition of the V35 was replaced with points on the V35II. It says as much in Ian Falloon’s book “The Moto Guzzi Story” He says the production run for the V35II was 1977-86.
Three things are possible, firstly the factory may have overlapped the production run and badged a V35 as a V35II, secondly a previous owner has changed the electronic to points, and finally the side panels maybe off a later bike. All of these are possible, most Guzzi models have interchangeable parts.
I’m not sure about the engine and frame numbers but I think there is a list on the Moto Guzzi club of the Netherlands’ website.
As there are a lot of Bitsas out there (my bikes included) it is vey likely that a 40 year old bike is not still original, but don’t worry about that as we are not rivet counters here (well mostly anyway!)
Have fun and enjoy your bike.
OK. Mk1 - master cylinder under the tank, Mk2 - on the handlebar. Easy to check if you got a bracket to fit the master under the tank, even if your front brake layout seems to be upgraded. Then, re engine: points type means entirely different camchain/generator cover vs. Bosch ignition, used until ca. 1981/82.
Thanks fella’s I think I’ve got a bitsa, it’s definitely got Bosch ignition on the mill everything else is Series 2. Many for the advice.
