Picked up a V7 Sport today. 7 miles on the clock, now 130. Loving it so far, but coming from a Breva its a bit of a technological leap! The modes really are different. No idea how I turned the TC off, but i did! Getting a screen and centrestand for it, and HB panniers and racks.
Congratulatuons.
TC is controlled by starter button when engine running. Turned off by holding in starter button, I think. But doesn’t it come back on next time you turn key on?
While I quite like the blue ‘Stone’ 850, that Sport in the Verde Legnano (is it green/lime.?) colour looks superb, especially in the sunshine
Lovely colour. I have to wonder though why a bike like this really needs so much tech. Breva owner too and I love it’s simplicity. Oh and that offset Yoda clock… Noooo
Funny enough 2 days in and nearly 200 miles and I am starting to understand the appeal of the tech, to an extent. Once its run in and lets say I was on a magnificent smooth dry twisty road, I might go for Sport mode. Most of the time its going to be Road, or if in typical Devon weather, Rain The offset clock again thought would annoy me, but 10 minutes riding and I don’t notice it! Compared to the Breva it looks lower but feels more dense. When you are on it, the tank looks small but its actually pretty big.
No TC warnings or anything like it in the 66 miles today, which leads me to think I either activated it, or turned it off accidentally. All fine today.
From the user manual..
‘Last level’ only means modes 1 or 2.
So in other words, if you turn off MGCT, it will always be re-enabled next time ign key is turned on. Using the kill switch doesn’t change the setting, only key off.
Key on, ABS and MGCT both flash. Once engine started and bike moving, both should go out. (If not there’s a problem.)
If either flash when riding, means it’s been triggered (whichever).
If you set MGCT to off, the MGCT warning light will be constantly illuminated. If not, there’s a fault with the system, the manual says.
May I ask what the seat height is compared to the Breva? I’m 6ft and the Breva, well, I wish it was nearer 800mm but I’ve got a seat pad that helps. Now I’ve had a back op, I’d love the model you’ve bought but unsure as to the suspension and comfort?
Thanks Mike that makes perfect sense now!
Seat height is definately higher than a standard B750 seat; I do notice it. maybe 25 or 30mm higher?
I love the look of the bike. Do you think, bias apart, that it is worth the cost? I have not seen it up close yet.
Compared to a 2004 Breva750 its a HUGE leap forwards, or as best I can work out from 100,000 miles on Brevas vs 200 miles on the V7 Sport 850. This bike has been bought out of my inheritance, and my wife Jill has encouraged me to buy it, and its in my late mothers favourite colour - she would have loved it. I imagine the difference will be even starker once the Sport is run in and had the first service - its a strong engine for sure, though not sure it matches a Griso as one of the LDC guys said! Handling is clearly better than the Breva, more sure footed and planted. The extra doodads on the instruments are not bad, and the fuel gauge is really appreciated.
Up close the finish appears to be very good, but I am no expert.
My plan for the bike is to keep it for 10 years or more, travel all over the UK and Europe. Next steps is to order HB pannier racks and panniers, as I am used to them and trust the quality. I would have loved to go away to the Red Kite but have left it too late, so I may just do a weekend away once the school holidays are over. This weekend is a South West Devon branch rideout - fingers crossed for the weather.
PS - at 6 foot you wont notice the extra weight and heft over the Breva like I did.
I am (or was!) 29" inside leg and I could put both feet on the floor sitting astride my V7 850 Special. (I say ‘could’ in the past tense only because later it got a sidecar attached. )
They are lovely looking bikes, those V7 Sports.
I wonder if there are/will be a set of clip-ons and rear-sets available? For me, that would really make the bike attractive but I fully understand why Moto Guzzi wanted to appeal to riders that can’t cope with sporty riding positions.
The big win, as I see it, is in the front suspension and brakes. Has the rear end has been upgraded to suit?
Jon
I think that will be the more upmarket Le Mans version launched for 26 or 27 maybe, with the full new V85TT engine, low bars and rearsets.
For me that would be not all that practical for touring.
I think if they launch a new LM then they’d use the v100 engine, perhaps a V120? Difficult to see how they could continue with both a Mandello and Lemans.
an air cooled 850 le mans would appeal to different people than a bike based on the v100/short block. I don’t see these as competing products, I don’t own any LC bikes and don’t intend to.
Yeah, maybe you’re right. Question is what does Piaggio marketing think, having invested so much in the new engine design. I’d definitely want a new aircooled LeMans if my artificial knee would bend enough.
do you know how to operate the cruise control please
I didn’t know until now that it had this feature but indeed it has! I have just googled it so all you need to do is ask Mr Google
