New jacket - one of them mesh thingies!

Just got an Oxford mesh jacket today and will giving it a good long test run on Saturday. Last Saturday was not all that pleasant in my leather jacket, and even the ride on Sunday night in my textile jacket with the flaps open was better, but not exactly cool. Might be the solution for hot days. Time to have a jacket rationalisation - 5 is too many!

I’ve had a mesh jacket for a good 5 years or so. It may only get used 1 or 2 times a year (this year moreso) but it makes riding in super-hot weather pleasurable, rather than just about tolerable.

I only ever wear it if the weather would make riding in a leather jacket very uncomfortable, though. As good as the mesh jackets with their armour are, there is no doubt that the protection offered by a leather jacket is better.

Look out for a secondhand or sale Klim Marrakesh. Or even a new one if you’ve got deep enough pockets - £400ish. Sell something to afford it, they are worth it

I’ve got one and it’s my best favourite all time winner jacket. Light, stretchy and flows just the right amount of air to keep you cool when it’s hot but not so much air that you freeze when the sun goes in. I’m ok in mine and a tee shirt at about 16c for an hour or so. Put a cyclists pertex jacket under and it cuts the air completely. Water resistant to very light rain/mist too. I think they are brilliant. Black not the best colour in sun though so if you can get a coloured one.

Try before you buy a second hand one. Gen 1 jackets were typically boxy and big fitting. Gen 2 much more fitted.

And yes, very crash resistant. I went down the road at 55mph in mine and the jacket was just bruised rather than cuts and lacerations.
