Hi guys. I appear to have lost one of my keys and most certainly don’t like just having one. From the look of the key it seems to be big standard etc. I have a 2021 V7 850 Can I just get an eBay blank and get one cut or is there more to it? Cheers.
i think they have a chip in them for the immobiliser, my v85 does and the chip has to be matched to the ignition at the dealer if you get a new key cut
Cheers Sid. I’ve ordered a cut key online but it won’t have an immobiliser obviously. I’ll see what it does when it lands. Cheers for the reply
Take the advice given and get the key through a dealer and get it matched to your bike. A friend of mine went the easy route with his v85tt prior to going to the dealer. The result was it seems to have messed up the programming. Now it doesn’t recognise even the original key. Currently working through with MG in Italy. It may need all the electronics changing.
Nice and direct Chris thank you.
there is a way to bypass the chip/transponder if it fails, by using the security code and entering this into the dash.
probably most people don’t set the code though and you need a working key to set it or change it
i set mine and almost immediately forgot how to use it, its in the manual somewhere
Thanks Sid. I have a working key and still can’t even find out if the 2021 V7 has an immobiliser but don’t want to be locked out as Chris mentioned.
There’s a dealer in Wales that opens Monday so will give them a call to see if it does and what a key will cost.
What’s the most annoying is that the bike is at home so obviously my flaming key is but I can’t find it!!!
each key is individually coded and for a v85tt there is a limit to how many keys (i think 4 but might be wrong) which can be linked to each bike. the digital dash is also linked to it so if theres a fault the whole lot has to be changed. not sure how it is with a v7 but i expect the minimum will be the transponder and an immobiliser linked to the ignition.
probably says what’s what in the v7 manual
The never ending march of teknolidgi… however did we manage
When I had a spare key cut for my Mazda Bongo, the lady was insistent I had to pay for the all singing one and have it programmed, when I declined telling here it didn’t need it as the car had no immobiliser, she laughed out loud adding “ I love it when people think they’re experts”…
Having persuaded her to do it all the same, I waited for her to finish before pulling my existing key apart to reveal no sign of lectrickery inside…
“There you go I said” with a smile, “it’ll be fine”…
Haha I know what you mean. Am American Guzzi site said no immobiliser but not trusting my beauty to our American cousins opinion just yet. (They do think they invented apple pie after all)
Update. No immobiliser on my bike. Could potentially been added as an optional extra but looks like no one ever took them up on the offer. New key, cut and delivered for £12. Et you my missing one turns up now. Either way I’m getting some key trackers. . Thanks to everyone for their advice.
Good to know, you’re the key man…
Thanks for the update it’ll really help someone in a similar situation in the future .
So often such threads are left ‘hanging’ once the OP gets the problem fixed but never any confirmation for the rest of the community. Well done
Thanks Samurai, I find forums like ours save people so much time money and heartache and also reassure us that a ‘clunk’ etc is normal . Know what you mean about threads left hanging.
