Hi, Happy new year to all. Joining today for the first time but bought my S3 in october. Its a 1976 bike, currently fitted with a 950CC bored leman engine with an aftermarket cam and 40mm carbs. ( I have the original engine and other parts) Its running but needs a tune to get the best out of her. Its my first Guzzi and my first impressions are mostly positive. Handling is superb, braking is good but feels really wooden ( any advice?) The Clocks are pointless, I have no idea about my revs or speed, needles bouncing around like a fox on a trampoline. My only real gripe is the riding position which I really need to change so I am about to order some ago rearsets. I have seen various S3s fitted with V7 adjustable handlebars and if any one knows of some second hand ones out there please let know. Its no show pony, built to ride which I intend to do. I intend to show my Face early this year at the Goat in Spalding and I am up for local ride outs in Rutland . The S3 takes pride of place in the Garage with my Morini, Blackbird and RT1250.
See you on the road. Steve

Nice ride. Salut!
Veglia clocks (Tonti era) can flicker around but can also, if in good order, register reasonably well for their era, and mechanics. I’m no expert but I have found that attention to cable routing and fit to either end (of cable) can resolve that niggle. Bear in mind, too, that after a few years, yours might carry other than the correct length cables, and may be routed very differently than original. Plenty of tips to come, I’m sure.

I would suggest that if the clocks are that bad you get the internals cleaned and reset, Speedy Cables are a firm I use, they are in Wales, other companies are available and might well prove to be speedier!
Would you like the bars higher or lower?
I have fitted my bike with home made rear sets and after market clip ons, but it was never a 750S to start with. It was an 850T and now has a 950cc engine and 36mm carbs. I have fitted 38mm forks and had a set of V7 clip ons machined to suit but they were too high for me at the lowest level, I sold them.
I have posted photos on here of the rear sets before but ask if you would like copies.
Best wishes Chris
Hi Chris, thanks for the response. I am looking to raise the handle bar height so any advice of mods would be great. Regardless i will most probably fit rearsets. I am looking at guzzibits but have seen a few euro based suppliers but have heard a few horror stories about some of the bigger companies caferacer web and stein dinse. Do you have an opinion? i would be interested in your pics. Cheers Steve
Hi Barry, thanks for the response. I will look at routing when my garage warms up!
cheers Steve
Rear sets I machined new pegs out of solid stainless of a diameter to fit standard rubbers, they have a short projecting concentric bit that matches the size of the original cap head bolt, with a threaded socket on the left for a bolt and a short stud on the right for a half nut to avoid the swinging arm, they fit in the rear one of the pair of frame holes. I tried the front holes first but they were not far back enough (I’m 6’ 2")
I cut down the old foot peg carriers to suit so I keep the pillion pegs. The levers were cut and drilled and tapped for bolts suitable for standard rubbers.

I use Tomaselli clip ons just under the top yoke. You can push the forks up and fit the clip ons above the top yoke but this alters the steering geometry and make the steering too quick, it tries to fall into corners!
Better to get alternative adjustable clip ons, Jota bars might work. Or drill and tap the top yoke for standard bar clamps.
Best of luck!
