Just reporting what I’ve read. I’m no fueling expert - but most of what I read/watched suggests a remap is advised. Hence my question to Cykik about whether he has invested in a re-map. Interesting that whilst Gutsibits say a remap isn’t required, they sell the UpMap at £395 and say ‘Mistral recommend installing the map for Zard slip-on silencers’.
Fair enough. On the one hand Agostini are claiming performance improvements without mention of a remap and a cooler running engine sans the Cat. Wondering if the Mistral rec for a remap is with the Cat in place. Hefty price for the remap too! I’d need convincing of the need for it after a full system redo. Plenty folks saying the bike appears to run better without it. Seems conflicting to me and anyway to me the smart way to go is change one variable at a time.
All kind of academic to me anyway as I am not unhappy with the performance I got now. Running cooler does appeal though and losing that ugly Cat does too.
All parts from Gutsibits, ads say no remap required.
it’s only noisy over 5k/6k rpm, if you keep it down to 3k or so it burbles along nicely.
most of the noise reduction is the downpipes and cat on the newer (e5 onwards) bikes. my v85 oem pipes have gray foam looking material in them
upmap do a mistral specific map now for v85, it was recommended to use the zard map previously because it was the closest match.
Going back to the original question about fitting an aftermarket silencer and its possible effect on the Warranty. The YouTubers “Darcy and the Man” suffered a catastrophic rocker support bracket failure on their new V7. They reported that the Warranty claim was rejected because they had fitted an after market seat! If this is true then I’d be very wary about installing a non standard silencer. Cheers Phil
Cool - thanks. That is reassuring. Might need to check my piggy bank.
I found that as well. They say it was rejected because of an aftermarket seat although their bike had an extremely loud exhaust and various other mods as well. It seems odd to me. Legally, I don’t think they can reject a warranty claim because of a mod which is clearly not linked to the failure in any way. Warranty terms don’t override consumer rights. An exhaust they could argue that it changes the power or the heat in the head is different or even the lighter exhaust reduces vibration damping effects but how do they reasonably claim a seat caused a rocker failure if taken to small claims court?
Yep i agree it did seem odd
it runs better with a remap, the v boost does improve things but the remap is better.
the downside to the remap is it also deletes the closed loop fuel trimming, it’s an upside for performance, but does use more fuel.
I get 55mpg now at best, I was usually getting 65 to 69 (one trip was 72mpg!) on long runs. however, it’s worth it.
I only got the remap kit because I had to reset the tps, which i changed when mine failed, but I’m glad I did now.
my heated grips were fitted by dealer before I got the bike, when one of them failed dealer said moto guzzi won’t apply warranty to “accessories".
I could potentially have argued and gone to SCC but I didn’t, I didn’t want to fall out with the dealer who had been great for every other issue, although I never got the original unheated grips back which would have been useful later to modify with aftermarket heated grips.
Could the increased fuel consumption be due at least in part to the extra power making the bike more lively which encourages you to ride in a less economical way? If you’ve got more power, you’ll open it up more!
yes it definitely was that at first
(and actually when I fitted the v boost the same thing happened) but over time when I’ve been doing more ‘normal’ riding although fuel economy has crept up a bit it’s still not where it was.
I need a few more long trips to be sure, with luggage/pillion etc.
my overall average mpg measured in the app over 5 or 6k was 45mpg, that hasn’t changed much yet
It’s a morass all in the factory’s favour it seems? Not the only business that operates this way these days. The philosophy often seems to be rely on lack of persistence or stamina! Not restricted to bike or auto makers.
I recently posted on getting Oxford Pro grips which worked when fitted loose then quit once glued in place. Bit if back and forth with them and they agreed to send a replacement for the control side “as a gesture of goodwill” if you please?? What happened to warranty there?
Duly replaced the offending side and worked well fo about 500 miles then died again! I really don’t want to faff around getting super glued grips off again, especially throttle sleeve side. The sleeve being plastic and in danger of being trashed in the process. Just disappointing. Summer coming so no pressure but if next Fall/Winter is an issue think I will just go heated gloves this time. Life should not be this difficult!
oh that’s disappointing, I’ll avoid the Oxfords then when I modify my spare unheated pair i got secondhand.
my OEM ones lasted about 2 years but they are not really hot enough in winter, better with muffs fitted, but as you say heated gloves avoid all that hassle entirely
I wouldn’t blanket-ban the Oxfords I think Phil was unlucky.
I have fitted Oxfords to 4 bikes never had any problems. On my v85 they are plugged into the Guzzi loom and have currently done 16 thousand miles with no problems. My mates who use them have not had any failures either (they are also much warmer than the Guzzi ones).
I’m also a Phil and had a bad experience with an Oxford item. They absolutely refused to listen to my complaint about poor quality and design. They insisted I went back to the original supplier who was about 5000 Kms away! The fact there was an importer of Oxford products 100kms from me didn’t make any difference to their stance. Big businesses, not caring about customers don’t deserve repeat business. I’ll never buy another product from them. Do they care? I suspect not. Rant over. Cheers Phil
I’ve always found Oxford kit to be good for a while. It’s not the best quality but it’s cheap. I’m thinking I’ll get heated gloves this time instead of heated grips then I can use them on all my bikes and there’s no fitting to bother will and they’re more effective at keeping hands warm anyway
