Non standard exhausts & warranty

I’m considering a Mistral exhaust for my new E5+ V85TT but can’t find the original warranty to check whether changing the exhaust invalidates it at all. Could anyone help with this?

I should have specified, I’m just talking about a silencer, not a full system.

Never heard of any manufacturer considering customisation of what are essentially ‘peripherals’ as warranty invalidations. Especially something like Mistrals, fully homologated for street use and requiring zero adaptation to engine parts or sensors?

One other thing to bear in mind - from my experience replacing the silencer made relatively little difference (aside from a weight saving and slightly different sound). The real difference came when I fitted a y pipe - big weight saving, less heat, and the sound….OMG the sound! Mine is a 2019 though and also fitted with K&N filter, velocity stack, and v twin boost.

you can take it off and put the original back on if you are taking the bike in for a warranty claim.

the silencer makes no HP or torque difference at all, it’s just sound and weight change.

did you find much difference with the filter change? I did the decat, v boost, velocity stack but didn’t change filter from stock.

I have since removed the v boost and remapped as well.

Diffult to say as I did the filter, velocity stack and v twin boost at the same time. The v town boost definitely helped improved low speed riding - lot less ‘jerkiness’ and not noticeable impact on mpg. The K&N also saves having to replace the air filter. As I say the change that made the greatest difference by far was the de-cat.

I understand that a silencer won’t effect performance. I just want a little more noise, not a lot.

My local MOT tester no longer gives a ticket on bikes with noisy pipes but as long as it’s not too loud he’s ok with it.

I have a Mistral end can on the Mandello. Prettier and nice sound. Recent MOT a month or so ago “Advisory for possibly loud exhaust”. BS!
There is no direct instrumental testing on actual noise level. It is a “subjective assessment” by the tester.

Pointing out that the outcome of that can be hugely influenced by where and in what kind of environment the test is done. The recommendation is that the assessment be carried out ‘outdoors’ I have read. I have no way of knowing whether that was the case. Someone else here suggested the advisory was basically a CYA move by the test station. The Mistral is a homologated E5 for street use. As long as the system is complete and no defects there should be no issue. As was mentioned swapping the OEM for testing is an option and I still have mine but I’ll be damned if I will faff around doing that unless given a fail and I’ve yet to hear of anyone getting such?

I’ve also got a mistral for my v100. Have to say its made only a marginal difference to the sound so I’ll be removing the db killer as soon as I can find the appropriate tool. Easy enough to swop back to OEM for the MoT (if required). Hopefully that will satisfy my desire for a more fruity sound as if it doesn’t, the de-cat and eco remap will set me back more than £1000.

Mmm got to ask.. how loud does it need to be? Everyone to their own I guess.

Not necessarily louder - just a little more bass if you know what I mean. The mistral sounds better than standard (in my opinion) but it’s marginal. So a little more of a good thing is what I’m after. If it’s too loud I’ll put the baffle back in.

and interestingly I got the mistral off a guy who posted pictures when he fitted it to his 100s. He was swamped with negative replies telling him he was an idiot and OEM looks better. So yup - everyone to their own.

I fitted full Mistral system to my V100 in March this year.1st ride was for Mot! Definitely runs cooler, seems more responsive & sound is definitely more Italianesque..

Didn’t know Mistral are offering a full system or is that the Agostini headers & y pipe with a Mistral silencer? And did you use an upmap or similar to re-map the ecu?

They don’t do the full system. Agostini front end, Mistral can. Beauty is the OEM fits just the same if want to swap.

Yup and whilst an ECU remap is not required, the consensus seems to be that it’s highly advisable.

Why advisable? Jus’ curious.

Lean running I believe. Have a look at Guzzitech.

Yet the reports say the engine runs cooler? At least on this side of the Pond.

I’m not sure if Guzzitech is the most reliable bible of Guzzidom across the board. Just my personal take on certain forums.
