Norge 1200 4v Starter Motor

Smoked billowed from my starter motor leaving me stranded. Assuming it needs replaced but a few questions from those more technical than myself:

Can the SM’s be overhauled and repaired?

What else might have caused it to smoke up?

Do any of you know or have access to the correct part number/starter specs for a replacement if required?

Usually they are rebuildable and you can get new brush sets.

Worth finding an auto electrician to check and repair in case a winding has failed.
