Hello everyone. As part of the process of getting the mechanics of my 2007 4 Valve Norge back in tip top condition, I intend to replace the taper roller Swinging Arm Bearings and as a result I have some questions…
-
Where can I get hold of a pair of bearings at a reasonable cost. Guzzibits aren’t listing them at present. Fowlers in Bristol say they are out of stock and each genuine bearing costs a whopping £61.00. My internet searches have so far only found the bearings available in Germany.

Does anyone know of a bearing supplier that can supply fully grease sealed taper roller bearings to fit the Norge.
-
Can anyone who has replaced these bearings give me the dimensions of the slots in the metal of the frame behind the outer race so that I can make or alter a tool to fit them.
I have searched elsewhere on this forum but haven’t yet found (and it may be my searching skills) the answers I am looking for.
If you take the old bearings to a supplier they should be able to match them. I have used Essex Bearings in Heybridge near Maldon for many years and they have always been able to match bearings both metric and Imperial for my bikes at a reasonable price.
Mentioned elsewhere, prise the seal off the bearing so that you can buy the standard “cheap” bearing from a bearing supplier
Brian, thank you for your message, I have bought a pair of genuine bearing from of all places ‘Trike Sportscars’ because I fear the seal would get squashed if I used a bearing without the projection that fits through the seal. They weren’t cheap but they were around £40.00 cheaper than the genuine items and came with the grease seal and the seal that fits behind them. I have bought a little reversible puller in the hope that its thin feet can be ground width ways until they fit in the slots behind the bearing outer race, we’ll see!!!

I’ve seen the Trike Sportscar site - cheapest price for the bearings
I had a similar search and conclusion when replacing these on my 1200 Stelvio some years ago.
The bearings were not worn out as such but had corroded so badly that they had to be replaced.
I rigged up a slide hammer to a small puller (ground jaws first) to remove the tapers. I spent a lot of care and attention on that bike only for it to be destroyed by fire recently (new owner had it for about 6 months)!

Square pants - I loved doing all the work on my Norge. Somehow it was more rewarding than working on Japanese machinery because even sorting some quite complex issues was some how within the realms of the competent home mechanic with the aid of those willing to give advice in these forums. In the end I made the decision of selling it after 9 years of ownership to get a low mileage GT 8V version and guess what I aim waiting for the kit to arrive to convert it to roller tappets. Let’s hope it is the only major expense I have with it for a while. Many of the lessons I learnt with the trusty 4 valve should help on that score.
