NOx value for 1979 V50

Hello, does anyone know how I can find out the NOx value for my V50? I need this to demonstrate it is is ULEZ exempt - provided it’s less than 0.15grams/km. It’s not recorded on my V5C.

Welcome to the forum. :slightly_smiling_face:

On this page, it says you can have it tested:

“We will also accept evidence from test facilities approved by us for measuring NOx emissions. If successful, the test facility will contact us with the results.”

tfl.gov.uk - Motorbike emissions testing

EDIT: the alternative is get the manufacturer to provide the info, but for a V50 this is highly unlikely. :grinning:

Apologies that this doesn’t answer your question as asked, but it might still be helpful:

“Historic vehicles” are, according to the ULEZ Exempted Vehicles page, exempt from charge. A 1979 V50 would be eligible for ‘Historic vehicle’ status, and thus eligible for exemption - but (and forgive me if you already know this) you do actually have to apply for, and be granted ‘Historic vehicle status’ from DVLA.

Hope this is actually helpful to you.

Good addition, thanks. (Forgot about historic vehicle status.)

Mike and Barry, many much for your points, both very helpful. I thought I’d read that historic vehicles were exempt but then went down the NOx rabbit hole. I apply for historic status first!

Well done. If nothing else, applying for and obtaining ‘Historic Status’ for your bike frees it from Vehicle Tax and MOT’s - not to mention that you become eligible to wear the ‘coveted’ black and white reg plate (bah, I say!).

Note that “no vehicle tax” doesn’t mean quite what it says on the box: you absolutely still have to tax the vehicle, on time, but the amount of taxation is Zero. And as for MOTs, it seems to be a somewhat less than ‘black & white’ matter as to whether insurers are comfortable with “no MOT”. I’m sure your own would clarify matters were you to make a claim (o;

I would MOT a bike even if it were not required so as to get an annual confirmation that it is still ok to ride. Breaks fade gradually and bearings wear over time so that day to day you do not notice.

But then again that is your own decision! :grinning:

To MOT or not to MOT - that’s a whole different box of frogs, eh @Chris950s? (o;
