oil pressure light

I have not had an oil pressure light come on when I turn on ignition. Checked the bulb - not there so no wonder. Bulb replaced. Light works when tested but not when connected to the oil pressure switch. I just bought a second hand pressure switch to replace one that leaked. So it could be faulty or am I missing something simple?

IIRC if you short the wire at the switch end (ignition on) the light should(well) light!!

If it dosen’t - duff cable or bulb holder
If it does - duff switch or no oil pressure

I wouldn’t muck about with a scond hand switch though - replacements from a motor factor will only be about a fiver if its anything like the on on my Cali

The bulbs are 1.2 watts wedge type ones, available from a good old type car spares shop or from Vehicle Wiring Products (their ref number 286) @ around 60 pence each or a mere £1.99 pence EACH from Halfords, the problem with these bulbs and their fitting is they can come lose at the drop of a hat. on a small block Guzzi I am working on now I had to clean up all the small spade connectors which made up the warning lights.

the mass of wires inside the warning panel might look
daunting but it is simple, the headlight/main beam and turn signals are fed by a
black earth wire and the oil, charge and neutral warning lights are fed by a
red live wire.clean up all these connectors and make sure they all are a tight fit onto the bulb holder.
oil light and brake light switch- T3 etc

The oil pressure switch just puts an earth on to the light when there is no oil pressure. But the contacts inside get dirty, so the light never comes on.
They switch at about 5 psi so if you are sure the switch is working but the light stays on, don’t continue to run the engine.Brian UK2013-12-06 21:58:08

In over 20 yrs the oil pressure light out has ALWAYS been the switch. But I guess there will be a first, and ONLY time it ain’t

After a thorough drenching, hose or rain, both my guzzi oil lights have a tendancy to stay on until dried out (a common issue I believe) well the Cali dosent any more as the switch (fingers crossed) is caput. Another job on the list…sigh!

The latest one on mine has lasted about 6k,only 4 months. I may put the pressure gauge back on again…

All fixed. The first new switch was a dud.

OK then.
