Oil Use, Is this normal

Hi All,
I had my new 24 V85TT serviced at 1100 miles, I am now at 4200 and the oil is on minimum is this normal ? Virtually all the oil used in 3000 miles. seems excessive to me

Any visible leaks?
Was it above minimum when you collected it?
If so (or if you don’t know) Take it back to the shop sap.

i check mine every 1000 miles, and i used to measure exactly how much i put in for the first year or so.

it used 100ml per 1000 miles.

now i just do it by eye with a hand pump oil can. the can holds 500ml and since i do 8k a year i have to top the oil can up between services.

My v7 is c.100ml per 1000 miles and full to minimum is about 250ml so still 1.5l below the minimum line.

Hi
No visible leaks and I stripped it down to XCP it for winter so nothing spotted at all.

Also I noted it was virtually full when I got it back from the service.

Dropping from wherever it was after service to the minimum mark is not “virtually all the oil used”. Put enough in to get it to hallway between the two marks and make a note of how much that is. 250 to 300 ml? Not a lot for 3000 miles. Ride the bike and enjoy it instead of worrying.

I have V7 850 Special, high oil usage when new is common apparently, mine lost about half a litre in the first few hundred miles, now at 6,000 m doesn’t use any.

This Lithuanian guy talks about oil consumption here (rode his new V85 TT to Croatia!), at 25:30 minutes, but in a later video (10,000 km) he said oil usage stopped.

It’s not unusual.
Some do use oil and some don’t.
Those that do use it seem to use less oil as they age (mileage not years).
My 2019 model did use quite a bit for the first couple of years and would turn on oil warning light but much less so now.

Does the oil warning light work on level alarm or pressure alarm or both?

On the E4 wiring diagram it shows an oil pressure sensor and an oil pressure pin out feed to the instrument panel. Both the E5 and E5+ handbooks say it is an oil pressure warning light
