Morning guys, just stripped the gearbox and found quite a lot of small metal fragments around the oil output shaft and oil seal and wondered if the seal has a garter spring and maybe this has deteriorated? There doesn’t appear to be any inside the gearbox but there was a little in the oil when I drained it. It seems to be focused on the outer surfaces though there is a little in the bearing. Any thoughts?
Yup, looks like the spring, which the seal should have.
Can’t think how it would have happened other than defective seal or dislodged when fitted, ie tool used to press it in was too small and not pushing the outer circumference of the seal.

Little bearing is supposed to be there, it locks the output shaft to the speedo gear👍
