Petrol tank pressurising

My 1400 is pressurising it’s petrol tank - a lot! When I get park up it makes a really odd noise, I open the fuel cap and there is a real relese of pressure. I guess (hope) it’s to do with a vent line - anyone had a similar issue?

Are you sure its air rushing out (high pressure) - rather than in (low pressure) . If the tank breather is blocked the pressure in the tank would drop as fuel was used. I suppose with an injection bike the tank could maybe be pressurised by fuel returning to the tank with a blocked breather.

Sounds like a blocked breather

I think it’s pressure, rather than vacuum.. hard to tell, really. It moans.. then pssssst when the tank is opened. I will investigate! Our friends across the pond have similar issues, centered around a tip-over valve (intended to prevent fuel spill in the event the bike goes over) that can stick. Mind, they also have issues around a charcoal cannister and all sorts of emmissions gubbins.. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

My V7 850 2024 special does make a hissing noise when releasing the fuel cap.

So does my V85 to be fair, the whale song of the Cali is a new thing though! Hopefully I’ll get chance to investigate this weekend, although given the weather forecast it might have to wait a while longer :face_savoring_food:
