Hello all, I’m a self confessed Royal Enfield enthusiast who has the chance of obtaining a MG Spada 3. I’m told, this particular model is quite rare with only 6 out of the original 10 still on the road. The one I’ve been offered is most certainly not on the road, but I’m hopefull that it could be quite quickly.
As you can tell, I know nothing at all about Moto Guzzi’s, but I’m willing to learn!
I don’t know anything about the Spada in particular but I’m sure others will be able to help with that! As far as Guzzis go in general, welcome I hope you get the bike and get it on the road!
Hello Scotsray,
Thank you. It seems a little on the small side in its current form. My kneecaps are right up against the fairing, which, if it wasn’t there, means they would be resting on the rocker covers! I’m pretty sure a different seat might place me a little further back from the tank, and I’m also sure that the fiaring doesn’t have to be there…
I’ve never had the privilege to sit on or go a Spada Wizzy, even my V7 feels wee when I’m on it but that is part of what appeals! I have had a number of bikes over the years and not long ago had a Pan European. Getting it out of the garage was an Olympic event!! Small is good
The motor is straight from the Le Mans 1000, but with electronic ignition. Thus marketed as ‘a gentleman’s tourer with a bit more oomph’, certainly it was an improvement over the Spada 2 by all accounts (which was largely ruined by the stupid 16 inch front wheel - an awful fashion fad that was rampant at the time, and only because the race track boys had tried it for a bit as an ‘experiment’).
I had a Spada 1 for a while. Needed some work to improve handling and comfort, and badly needed a respray as the stock finish was poor. It was alright after all that, I thought. Really should have kept it.
I had one and I confirm that it had 36mm pumper carbs but I think the camshaft was milder than the 1000 Le Mans. Mine certainly wasn’t sporty!
