Late to the party here but I replaced mine earlier this year with one from Theo Lamers- had a choice of 5-6 I think? No import duty on secondhand parts btw.
Bear in mind there is a choice of spring strength according to which model it is- Calis have more rear brake bias. I simply swapped the old spring from my original 1983 unit- bike still squats properly in an emergency! My experience anyway. Good luck!
Thats interesting Ian,
The Cali workshop manual shows the brake pressure splits as a graph but there is nothing about the pressures in the SP manual. I assumed they were the same, apparently not.

Hi, do you know if anyone has a rear brake caliper
For a 1979 Spada, I think it is the P 09.
The one with two bleed nipples.
If so would they sell it to me?
Thanks
Jef Walker
It is a P9 but they are scarce because they were only used on a few bikes like Spada and the G5 plus the small bleed valves sieze and snap. I had to replace mine for that reason and I managed to butcher it completely trying to get it out (the extractor snapped in the remains of the bleed valve) I managed to get another one where the other side had been buggered and I was able to make a good one from the two.
If this is your problem Nik Wallis told me that he had had some success in extracting them.
By the way the SP having the larger brake caliper may explain why the springs in the proportional valve are different to those in a Cali.
Andrew
As mentioned above, the P9 caliper is extremely rare to find. I assume you have tried the likes of Gutsibits, ReBoot etc, but I doubt if they would have any in stock. I have read that some BMW’s of the early 80’s used them.
I believe the larger P9 was used to balance the braking force between the front and rear wheels.
What is wrong wth yours? Seal kits are available to refurbish old ones. Also as mentioned above, the small 10mm bleed nipples shear off very easily, use a penetrating oil & heat the caliper up before trying to remove them.
Edit, there is one for sale on ebay, described as an F09 from a BMW. Check carefully the details if you do decide to buy it, but I wouldhave thought your old one should be capable of being refurbished.
Hi Don
Thanks for your reply.
That BMW one certainly looks the same
So have contacted the seller to make sure
It’s in working order.
Mine is probably not serviceable now,
I tried to drill it, as I have drilled them before
With great success, but unfortunately not
This time.

Jef
currently over £500 from BMW?!
or an F09 - new - from Gutsibits at £145. hmm…
By the way, when you get one you may want to use the stronger titanium bleed valves, Gutsibits have them.
Nb the new caliper on Gutsibits is a replica - I have no experience of these
I believe the smaller calliper from the front has the same fixing centres, so maybe an option to fit one of those instead. Brake balance won’t be quite as the original, but I don’t think that will matter in most real-world situations.
You could use a proportional valve from a later model that uses the F09 - like Cali 1100
This is the Gutsibits caliper, not a bad price for a new caliper
Hi Don,
Yes not a bad price but I don’t think it is
A Brembo.
I have no knowledge of aftermarket Brembo
Brakes.
So will search a little longer for a good
Second hand one.
I will call Gutsibits tomorrow and see what
They are like.
Thanks

This is just a thought, and I don’t know if it’ll work. Many years ago I did just this, nadgered the thread/conical seat getting sheared bleed screws out. The new bleed screws weeped under pressure. I thought they were scrap and eventually disposed of them. Later, I kicked myself very hard as I found out about Stahlbus bleed screws. Provided you don’t mind the non-standard look, I reckon I could have sealed a Stahlbus bleeder into the dodgy hole and it would have worked fine. Just a thought.
