Rear Brake Spring

Hi, I am trying to buy a replacement spring for the rear brake pedal on my 1990 V65GT, Gutsibits are trying to buy in more but I’m not sure when that will happen. Would any of the members have a spare spring they could sell me please?

Gutsibits website advises that the spring I need (P/N GU19667600) is also fitted to the following models, all V35, V50 & V65’s plus 750 Targa, Strada 750, Nevada 750 (1991 - 1997) & Le Mans 1000.

Hopefully someone can help me with this.

Thanks Derek

I’ll be watching this. I have a 1991 750T. It’s brake return spring is in one piece but very weak, so I could do with a new one myself.

I have a selection box of springs. If you know roughly what you need I can see if there is anything suitable and send to you. If it’s just to return the pedal and master cylinder, I would think you could make do until Gutsibits get some stock.

Hi Ranton_Rambler, thanks very much for your reply and your offer to help. Unfortunately your box of springs appear to be compression springs and the one I’m after is a torsion spring. I have tried to upload a picture of the spring but it is just a link and I’m not sure if it will be possible to open it

TLM have 3 in stock.

Regards, Nik

i got a new old stock hub spacer from them after a pointless wait of 3 months for guzzi to supply one to dealer

Hi Nik, thanks for the info and the price is fair but I’m not keen on the £25 postage charge

I think i would call them to confirm that. I buy a lot of spares from Stein Dinse, Germany and they only charge £10 for a big box!

Thanks for the advice, it does seem very dear to charge £25 postage for a small spring, I’ll let you know how I get on

I faced this problem & made a replacement using music wire. I used 2mm in the hope I could cold form it but It needed heat so I’d use 2.5mm if I did it again.

I heated the wire with a blowtorch to form the coil around a suitably sized screwdriver shaft. Once I’d finished shaping the entire piece , re-heating the coil and other bends back to a cherry red before quenching in water returned sufficient spring to the steel. Time will tell if it is (or becomes) too brittle. I’ll keep an eye on it and come back and tell you if /when it breaks.

I’m not generally inclined to home-made braking systems but I don’t consider this spring safety critical & it’s better than nothing until I find a replacement.

Hi Gambacorta, Well done, by making your spring you have kept your bike on the road. I placed an order with Gutsibits last week and they are expecting a batch of springs in the next two weeks. I need to MOT my bike so I will wait on the correct part. Will let you know once the spring arrives
