This concerns the rear light units as fitted to the Breva 1100, 1200 Sport and Norge. It may well also apply to the Stelvio but I have not looked close enough.
The rear/brake light unit is made of a surface mount PCB with tiny LEDs instead of bulbs in bulb holders. There are 16 LEDs arranged in two circles of 8. On my 1100, 3 LEDs had failed and 3 more were working intermittently.
I decided it was time to try to fix it so I removed the PCB, with its backing plate from the light unit and took it into work for one of the electri-majicians to look at. I now have it back and working perfectly!
Here is what you need to know:
- The circuit is arranged so as the LEDs are grouped in series. This means that if one fails, several go out!
- Being a surface mount PCB and the LEDs being about 3mm square with 4 contacts it’s fiddly - not for the inexperienced or ham-fisted.
- The LED required is a 105-8429 from Farnell.com this is a perfect match for both colour and brightness - all for 16p each!

- This fix is worth trying as otherwise the whole light unit has to be replaced at a cost of over £100.
