Remap or power commander

Well, after much ‘huffing and suffing’ I’ve decided to leave any idea of a remap or power commander for the time being.

Not actually sure what the remap entails and the guy who does it will not disclose what he does, some folks believe he only enriches the fuel and doesn’t actually remap the ECU.

Anyway, I’ve recently had the latest map installed at Teasdales, it’s had it’s 6k service, and I’ve fitted a Quill exhaust and to be honest it’s running like a good un, so I’ll keep my £360 and see how it goes.

As an aside, I recently sent for a G2 throttle Tamer from the States which claims to almost cure any throttle snatch.

It arrived six days after ordering and I must say it was a very nice piece of kit. However, it could not be fitted to a bike with heated grips. On looking closer the only thing that was different was to the OEM was the shape of the throttle cam, so I bit the bullet and after removing my throttle and just strapping it out of the way temporarily I fitted the G2 throttle and took it for a spin.

It certainly makes the bike much less snatchy and smoother. So when I got back I removed the G2 item and trimmed the cam on the original throttle using a Stanley knife, put it all back together and it works a treat.

Interesting comment on the throttle cam. I’d like to know what effect it has on the glitch I occasionally feel at 3,000-3,500rpm.

Based on some basic research general to bikes like this, it seems this is the point where the mapping changes between closed loop to open loop so under certain conditions of load/heat/throttle position etc. the transition is noticeable.

I don’t see how the throttle cam will prevent this but it may soften the blow. Having owned bikes with more jerky fuelling than the Guzzi, I think I have developed a sensitive throttle hand so don’t suffer as much, maybe.

Hi Jon,
I don’t think the throttle shape affects any of the electronics. What it does do is, because the shape of the cam is much shallower the uptake of the throttle cable is much gentler. Took a bit of getting used to, and I’ve nearly stalled it a couple of times at junctions but generally I like the way the throttle now works.

I just fitted the Finbau Forge device to my Breva 1100. Was previously averaging 34 mpg. To soon to say if fuel use is different but I do feel smoother pulling from low revs which is what I wanted. Pleased with product.
