I’ve now had my 2014 Stelvio for 5mnts and 4500k.
Still absolutely loving the bike but there are a couple of niggles I would like to sort out. Throttle snatch in 1st, 2nd,and 3rd can spoil things a little especially round town and on roundabouts.Low speed running under 2000rpm is a little choppy presumably due to the lean running.I have fitted a Finbaue fuel enricher which has improved things but I feel it still could be better. So,do I take it to Geoff at Hilltop motorcycles and have it remapped or do I fit a power commander. I’m no techno wiz kid and would be interested in the views and experiences of others. Thanks Steve (was wrinkley till te site changed, then it wouldn’t recognise me)
First find out if your insurer will accept the modification, or how much extra on your premium.
Hi Steve,
Purely from an engineering purity perspective I favour the remap. The engine has sensor and actuators connected to the ECU which has more than enough smarts to manage them all. Putting more electronics in the way just seems like over egging the pudding!.
Good luck,
Richard
Steve,
I will be interested to hear what you end up doing, and of course the results.
My 2014 Stelvio generally runs very well but there is a bit of a flat spot around 2500-3000rpm when on a gentle throttle opening. Unfortunately, this corresponds to a very commonly used situation on the road but I can live with it for now and I’ve certainly had worse (!). It’s in for a service next week so hopefully will get sorted then.
Jon
Jon, have you tried the Finbau Forge Lamda sensor fooler mentioned above.
It sorts out that problem normally.
Hi Ian. No, not yet. The bike is still under warranty and I’ll see what the latest factory mapping does first. The Finbau seems to receive good reviews so it’s definitely worth a look if plan A falls at the first hurdle.

I too would be very interested to hear what you think of a Hilltop remap should you go that route

Not sure how relevant this is, but I had Geoff at Hilltop re-map my BMW K1200S because of the snatchy off-on throttle response. Afterwards the bike went like a bullet and was more economical, but it was just as snatchy as ever. So be clear what you want when you talk to him.
I collected my bike from Streffords this morning after the service yesterday. As usual, a superb job with some warranty work included.
More to the point, on the 3 hour+ ride home I had the chance to get a feel for the revised mapping. The flat spot has, it seems, completely disappeared and the fuelling is now as it should be . Maybe the synching of the TBs helped but I think it must be mainly down to the latest fuel mapping. Having spoken to Nathan earlier, it seems there have been a few revisions in the last few months so anyone experiencing this flat spot might want to check in for some digital therapy.
The map I have just had installed is 3222ST02
Jon
Hi Jon,
This is very interesting. I presume you are experiencing all of this digital delight without having a Finebau Forge unit fitted? My Stelvio is a 2011 model and is out of warranty so I guess I would have to pay for the remap but it sounds like it may be worth it. That said, I have yet to take all of the slack out of the throttle cables which has been suggested several times as a solution to some of the throttle response problems.
Happy riding,
Richard
Richard,
Mine is a ‘Big Tank’ model that was registered in 2014 but I think may have been manufactured a couple of years before.
On the assumption that your 2011 model is indeed the later ‘Big Tank’ with 2 x Lambda sensors then I suggest you speak to a Guzzi dealer about installing this map.
I have not gone down the Finebau Forge route and was hoping not to have to do so.
Judging by yesterday’s run, it seems that the new mapping is also more economical but the biggest difference is that 2,500-3,000rpm zone .
Jon
Hi Jon,
Yes, mine is an actual 2011 big tank model with twin lambda sensors. Thanks for the advice and recommendation. I will most likely proceed as you have advised. That said, I was out on mine this afternoon (it was incredibly warm!) in a mixture of heavy Christmas shopping centre traffic and fast motorway work and there was not too much of a problem with the throttle response. I seem to have been lucky in this regard compared to other owners. My main problem now is the rate at which the rear loses air past the spoke seals! I will start another thread.
Merry Christmas!
Richard
Richard63, tried UltraSeal?
Apologies - I missed out a vital piece of information on the mapping reference. The 3222ST02 is the generic reference for the Stelvio maps but the critical version was missing from my post. The new map is version 22.4 and my previous was 11 point something.
Jon
Thanks for the info Jon.
Think I’ll give Teasdales a ring see which map mine has before chucking £400 at it.Like I’ve said,I love the bike and the performance is ok for me,it’s just the throttle snatch and lumpy low rev running that I’d like to address.
Steve
After much research I’ve decided to have the Stelvio (Goomah) remapped at hilltop Motorcycles.
You can post off your ECU and they will do it and post it back.
After a long telephone conversation with Geoff at Hilltop I am taking my bike down on the 28th March for the re map.
I’ll be sure to post the results.
Steve.
So what’s the verdict? Â Is a remap or
http://www.finebauforge.com/MotoGuzzi-Stelvio.html the way to go?Â
Keen to have a bit more low - mid range grunt from my Stelvio loaded 2 up.Â
Fitted a Finebauforge unit to my 2014 Stelvio last year but removed it soon after.
Making sure the bike is correctly set up makes the biggest difference (no slack in cables, use Super unleaded etc)and I had been more than happy with mine until just 3-weks ago when I took it to Twiggers to have the latest mapping installed. It now runs even better and the fuel consumption has improved to boot while remaining completely standard.
One happy owner.
Cheers Litch
How much was the work at Twiggers and how long did it take? Â
Remap was free, they would have done it at the 6K service a few months ago but they hadn’t received it from Moto Guzzi at the time so I had to pop back. Didn’t take long to upload, I just sat and read magazine for a few minutes.
