Is the steering lock easy to replace? I don’t have the original key and wondered how easy it is especially as I was looking at getting the frame powder coated quite soon.
They’re not unique to Guzzis, so most any YouTube video will show you what’s involved, e.g.: How To Change a Motorcycle Steering Lock Barrel Without a Key - YouTube
And new lock, keys, and rivet from Gutsibits: Gutsibits Moto Guzzi Spares & Accessories - The Shop - - All Models - All Categories
If you’re going to own and ride the bike, spend the money on a decent lock and chain instead - I have no idea if there’s even a steering lock still on my T3, I’d never consider using it. If you’re building to sell on, possibly a different POV.
Cheers, nice one. Never thought they’d be the same as most others
It’s been years since I’ve had a bike with one like this one. Looks like a sharp twist and it would break. I’ll use my big lock as I plan to keep it. Unless of course, a V50 should show up in the future…
Yup. Apparently that’s the way of it. Big fat chain on mine. Of course, you have to carry it, but hey ho.
That’ll save me 30 quid then
I also remember seeing a picture of a badly bent steering stem (the part that goes down the middle of the steering head), caused by someone trying to break the lock, don’t think it succeeded but did bend the stem and enlarge the hole. Of course none of this came to light until the present owner took it apart, possibly to change bearings.
The cover to my steering lock has been powder coated shut, so it will not open. If you intend to leave your bike anywhere unattended use a big fat chain and padlock as suggested by Barry and chain it to something fixed like a lamppost so it can’t be lifted into the back of a Transit (other vans are available to bike thieving people of questionable parentage)
