Runing in service V100

just had my running in service done and was a bit taken aback regarding the cost, nearly £250! Is this normal? The oil alone was £85 and they charged me one and a half hours labour. Apparently, this is a full service so the bike is not due now for another 12 months.

Kerno68, my V100 Stelvio had its 1st service beginning of July 2024 and cost £230.

Looks like it’s about right what I was charged. Just thought it was a bit steep. Maybe I am just getting a bit more frugal in my advancing years

I remember back in the day when the “running in” service was free. How times have changed :upside_down_face:

Wow, glad I got mine thrown in as part of the deal when buying it. No doubt I still paid handsomely for it but at least it was hidden in the one off hit!

I remember being charged £180 for the running in service of a Honda CB125R. I thought I’d been mugged so rang another main dealer to check. They were £50 cheaper. I rang an Indy he would have been £80 cheaper. It was made worse as they took an hour longer than they said they would and I would have expected it to be washed too (but apparently that’s only a ‘car thing’ - odd because the cheaper main dealer called with expensive one out as a car dealer that sells bikes :joy:).

I later got a ‘how did we do?’ email so just noted the price bump, delay and non-clean bike. The service manager called a few days later and apologised profusely. After offering a discount on clothing or merch, which I politely declined, he felt so bad he offered to pay for the next service completely! I was very pleased in the end.

Just had quote for my Stelvio…£340

That seems about right. Positively cheap compared to the £800 service my Yamaha needs this year.

Yep! The stealth cost of maintaining a warranty.

It’s a psychological game. It’s a part of the penalty of following forums for any product. You are given the impression that warranty claims are the norm. First service ones are truly a ripoff though for a simple oil/filter change and the rest checking yer nuts are tight!
Just depends on how risk averse you are. I have never adhered to recommended services by dealerships for stuff I am perfectly capable of following myself. Never had to make a warranty claim but I do accept that risk is all on me. Simpler the bike, the less the risk? I am just a stubborn contrary git though.
