rapheal glynn wrote; I see your frame has the origional one coat finish that used to corrode away !!!dont be too origional with that !!!it used to fall off in winter I decided after much consideration to go with 2 pack paint for the frame instead of powder coating or stove enamelling. Along with all of the other myriad “black bits,” and the wheels which were painted silver, I was charged £480 , after being given an estimate of £350 ish, and to add insult to injury, where there had been significant corrosion on the frame, the damage was quite visible throught he paint. So I ended up taking the frame and a few other bits that were poor to another painter to finish the frame off. The second painter informed me that there had been a thin “flash” of paint over the frame. Yes, I know that I should have complained to the original painter, but I didn’t! So although the two pack paint scratches more easily than powder coating, I’m hoping it stays on.

know how you feel I got caught by some one like that
all of my work is on a fixed price so I am never out of work
got fed up with greedy grabby people charging what they want
PS I have been reading Mick walkers restoration guide adn he says everything is matt black frame headlamp brackets and bits but matt fades so quickly
if you want I can scant the relevant page for you
why dont you complain to trading standards about the poor work
I would , plus I would want soem money back
you can see why so many club members do all their own work
I have a classic car and needed some bodywork doing a so called SPECIALIST looked at it and gave me a fairly massive price ie 5K
and explained that it would need a lot doing, which in all fairness could have been true but this was a low mileage well looked after car that had not been messed about with by the tart up brigade
I asked to see some of his work and speak to the owners
funny thing they all said they ended up paying double the origional quote no wonder he is always taking holidays ! and moving to bigger houses
I have found some one who does nto advertise but he has a three year waiting list so I am waiting
raphael glynn wrote; Mick walkers restoration guide adn he says everything is matt black frame headlamp Interestingly, Ian Falloon’s M.G.Sport & Le Mans bible says that satin paint was used on the frame. Oh well, what we do know is it wasn’t gloss. rapheal glynn wrote; you can see why so many club members do all their own work Yes, it does make sense. I’ve always had poor results doing my own paint, and so steer away from it. I suppose though that I could learn and get better if I researched and practised more. I’m retiring in a few years…maybe I’ll have time then? rapheal glynn wrote; I have found some one who does nto advertise but he has a three year waiting list so I am waiting That does suggest you get excellent quality work at good prices! rapheal glynn wrote; if you want I can scant the relevant page for you If it wouldn’t be too much trouble, I would like to have a look at that. Would you like me to send you my email address?

Now I always find IF you clear coat satin it looks pretty glossy to me, but hey. I would much prefer paint on a frame as Powder coat may look great when new BUT any cut/scratch whatever that allows water to penetrate and it festers away underneath, especially in places you cannot easily see then you have a totally corroded frame. you can see and pouch up paint finishes.
OK sometimes a touch up may NOT look brill BUT it stops the corrosion and does a job until you can get to a repaint.
Yes send me your email via the pm.system and i will copy it tonight i also have the american guzzi big twin book that has a lot of detail i can copy for you
regards raphe
Just by the way, I have noticed my frame has a white undercoat, no less, ergo must be painted.

It’s never rusted although showing a few ‘holes’ now that I’ll have to deal with.
Conversely I’m always having to recoat (well, maybe I exaggerate, just seems like ‘always’) the R80’s rear sub-frame with Hammerite
Thanks to all (above) for the advice regarding painting my Le Mans bits.I had a long discussion with the painter before going ahead, and he has carried out my requests to the letter, so I’m very pleased.I got them back today, and went with satin/mat for the black after much cogitating…which I may regret. Time will tell. I know a lot of people like a bit of patina…but in 10 years or so this lot will have that as well.

Looks Perfect Reggie!!
Nice one. Are you going to add the fluorescent orange to the fairing
Don-Spada wrote; Are you going to add the fluorescent orange to the fairingHi Don, no I’m leaving the fairing straight red as I prefer it that way, but if doing it would put me in contact with attractive women (as in your picture) that could change my mind
It’s the orange flash that attracts them for sure! The pic came from the Bike Mag road test back in about 1976. I used to dream of owning a LeMans but never thought it would be a reality, They cost 2 grand then and I was earning £30 a week on a building site!

I was a student nurse in 1977, can’t remember the wages but they were very low, and I can remember reading a road-test in ?Bike magazine, and I wanted one…never realising that it would take 35 years to save up
