Hi all has anyone altered the front foot rests to make it more comfortable for taller riders, seems the bike was designed for shorter Italians.![]()
The 1000SP footpegs are āset backā a little for a āleaning forward rideā. Iām sure some have found a way to alter them, maybe put them on a concentric adjustment or something similar, but move your legs forward and the fairing lowers might be an issue.
For what it is worth, the frame lower rails are interchangeable on the tontis. With the footrest mounts in alternate positions for, say, the T3 and different again (I think) for the G5. And then there are rails with fitings for footboards but that is a whole different story.
I have thought about this, Iām 6ft and had a dodgy hip. But if you have the fairing there isnāt a lot of space for your feet.
Barry is right about the other models being an option but l donāt think any of them will work. The G5 has rail mounted pegs, like some Calis, 50 mm further forward and slightly lower but also has foot controls to match which would hit the fairing.
One option which may help is to change the seat or have it re-modelled. I know mine is quite soft and I sink into it, comfortable but low. I know some of the later Spadaās had thicker seats. You may get an inch or two there. Who knows you may be able to put your knees inside the fairing and avoid the constant bruises on the inside of them.
Let us know how you get on I may revisit the issue. In the meantime I hope to have fixed the problem with a hip replacementā![]()
Yes⦠although my alteration was to allow my pillion an easier longer less cramped reach for her legs. From 8mm x 100mm mild strip I cut a trapezoid (
) with four 12mm holes, which allowed the pillion rests another inch and a bit ,which made a lot of difference. I also needed to change the upswept lafranconis for a cheap pair of dunstall rip offs for clearance. The original hangars bolted onto this plate. I see no reason not to adopt this approach, however, there seems only so much you can get away with in respect of the foot controls clashing with the frame rails.
ā¦a hip replacement made a big difference to me!
Hi all thanks for input,Iāve removed the side wings to give a little more adjustment so now my knees donāt bounce of the fairing, however I thought about lowering the footpegs but then foot controls are a problem and exhaust is in the way,as you say seat height might help gonna have another look. ![]()
Yes and if you carry a pillion theyād better be even smaller.
I put T3 footrests and carriers on my last bike, but I found eventually the best thing was to dump the legshields altogether, which donāt actually do anything in terms of weather protection and make accessing any part of the engine a complete pain, and fitted crash bars instead.

Hmm youāre right the wife did say its not as roomy as my Norton Commando.
The thick fibreglass lower fairing is the point of balance for a SP sliding on its side. Minimal damage, though a spare sparker and cap was a must. Being extra tall, I was sat on the pillion seat when riding solo, and knees splayed outboard the fairing when two-up.
That reminds me when I had my seat recovered I had a gel pad fitted but I also had the step for the pillion moved back about 30mm.
Lower fairings - single use crashbars!
