Hi all just stripped my bosch s/motor to sort out intermittent starting,anyway com was very dirty,not sure what is new length of brushes,and was surprised at the lack of magnetism on the body magnets I’ve just serviced my pals starter on a Honda Quad half the size and massive pull on the magnets so is mine knackered although it was spinning OK when it did work, oh and the horseshoe clip on the end of shaft was missing can you still get one.
Most Guzzi starter issues are actually down to the way that Guzzi wire the starter relay and a few years worth of corrosion in the ignition switch and connectors. Did you hear a click from the relay when it was playing up? I transformed the starting of mine with a simple extra wire from the fusebox to the relay like this.

The extra wire is the red wire from the fusebox to the starter relay.
