I have a rear wheel with a knackered rim that I want to get re laced.
Try as I may I can’t get the old spokes out of the hub. Anyone had this and found a solution???
if you don’t need the old spokes, then a set of small bolt cropers worked for me.
Cut the spokes short so that you can tap them out through the hub.
Had a heck of a job with mine, took ages, something to do with the spoke end being straight and having more metal to metal contact, rather than spokes with bent heads.
Tip - try to hang onto to some spokes to show the wheel builder, they’ll help him know which you’ll need.
If the wheel has a off set.The spokes could be longer on one side than the other
Good luck !it took me about 8 hours per wheel to get all the spokes out,Its simply a corrosion issue, the length of spoke within the hub gives a lot to seize together. You end up having to cut the old spokes off short and carefully drive each one out.You then need to clean all the corrosion out of the hub spoke holes using a suitably sized drill used by hand to minimise risk of damage.Never again
