New member with seeking a local wheel builder/repairer to help refurb my 2009 Guzzi V7 Classic wheels.
Anyone used the services of a local wheel builder/repairer please?
I’d like to treat my V7 Classic to a bit of a tidy-up over the coming winter and am looking for recommendations.
My bike suffers from usual Italian chrome pitting in places and I’d like to sort this - alternatively looking for a replacement set that are in better shape.
Thanks Chris. Distance not really an issue as I will be looking at dropping off and collecting after completion. Useful to have a point of contact to see if they can do what I want. Cheers.
My son had a very good job done by a guy in the NorthEast at a reasonable price, but I reckon that he has packed up (weld repair to corroded alloy rims on an Aprilia with new s/s rebuild). Lost his name - pity.
FOUND HIM https://www.thersbywheelrepair.co.uk/ Roy Thersby who works with his son Rory
I used to build my own (mostly wobbly trials rims after doing silly sections - over ambitious clerk of the course. Courses were set out for the sponsored and semi-sponsored riders who did not have to pay for broken frames and wheels. Still the same I believe) I still have some the gear (centring and balancing stand, etc), but I am too old and unwilling nowadays. I keep the gear for tyre changing on the Cali.
Cheers for that. Ideally I’d like a decent quality set of replacement wheels as the cost of refurbishing the originals is likely to be quite steep.
Mine are OK as I have masked the worst pitting but would like to see if I can find a set in better condition - my bike is mechanically sound but just a little let down in the cosmetic stakes. I’m not looking to make the bike a show winner as it is a bike to ride not a garage ornament!
No worries. Had found it anyway thanks. May be looking at a used front wheel now as a cheaper option as my front is the worst and can live with the rear for another year or two.
That’s the beauty of buying an older used bike - no one expects it to look like new (including me). I have been tempted by the newer V7’s but to be honest I reckon Guzzi got it right first time and none of the newer ones grab me in the same way - mine only has just under 19,000 miles on the clock and that’s over 15 years. Also has full service history and no failed MOT’s (not even an advisory in all that time).
Thanks again.
I have an almost new pair of wheels in a box,2020 V7 Special wire wheels, they have about 1200 miles on them. Happy to make you a deal as they are taking up space. I also have various V7 parts.
Done my research and unfortunately newer wheels will not fit my older V7 Classic as brake callipers are different with different mountings and speedo sensor won’t work properly.
Unfortunately I’ll have to pass up on your offer which is a shame.
Thanks anyway.

This guy is really good and holds stock (a lot of people just buy in from Central wheel) and can drill the rims (again a lot of people buy in ready drilled)
Thanks for that. Managed to source an original used front wheel in better shape than mine and will go for that as it is a much cheaper option.
Will bear in mind for future reference though as Italian wheels are prone to the elements here if not cared for - bike is now garaged so that will help too.
Thanks again.
I have a pair of V7 Classic wheels that are pretty good. They have been sealed for Tubeless so punctures can be fixed easily. I fitted a pair of cast wheels as I prefer them. The rims are tubeless rims but spokes mean they have to be sealed to use them without tubes.
