Stelvio Torque Arm bent

When I fitted a rear hugger a few months back I discovered the CARC torque arm was bent (photos). I’ve finally got round to replacing it but I thought I’d ask for any other ideas on why it could be bent. This is a substantial piece of metalwork profiled not to bend.

I’ve owned the bike just over a year but very soon realised the rear shock was past it’s best by a long way. With a pillion on and even with preload close to max it would bottom out. I do remember one big invisible dip in the road that bottomed us so hard my wife’s fingers got trapped between grab handle and pannier frames. That was probably the seat subframe flexing but I suspect could also have bent the torque arm. Equally it could have been like this long before I got the bike. Nice Nitron rear shock on it now too specc’d to our weights

Any other possible causes you can think of? The new arm is nice and straight, fitted with a new bush and painted in Hammerite. Which is a bit shiney but looks ok.

Bottoming out the Suspension shouldn’t put any extra load on the Torque Arm, the entire system would have been designed so as not to unduly load any of the components up through the full range of suspension travel.

More likely it was bent prior to your ownership, possibly even taken from a crash-damaged Bike, and just not noticed.
