Hi there ,about to re rim front wheel and change wheel bearings.
There is no obvious side to start knocking out bearings can anybody tell me what side to start? I have a manual translated into English, but its most confusing, particularly were it says Remove school boy???
From memory, it doesn’t make any difference, you can knock them out from either side. They are a standard size bearing that you can get from any bearing shop. I use the 2RS versions with built in seals.
The rear one uses steps in the spindle to form the spacer between the bearings, so tap the spindle to knock the bearings out.
This is a screenshot from Google Translate on my phone, schoolboy (Scodelino) is a bowl, I assume it refers to the brakeplate on the left and the spacer on the right hand side.
Thanks for that, I was refraining from jumping in with a big hammer, This is what I found, there was 2 dished washers, I think acting as grease seals. I will replace with sealed bearings, not sure if it will require the 2 washers on reassembly
Ah, that must be what they were referring to as a Scodelino, small bowl or schoolboy!
The text is quite poor quality in some of the scans of the Italian manuals. Schoolboy translates to scolaro in Italian, I would imagine that is how scodelino (bowl) got translated to schoolboy.
