Sudden catastropic clutch failure - cantt disengage

Cannot the frame be tilted backward to clear the front first?

seem to remember a post on wildguzzi awhile ago on stelvio clutch replacement, bit of nightmare to do.
vaguely recall there is pipe fitting on block (2x5mm bolts? restricted access) on left front of engine needs removing to allow clearance for engine to drop.

google :-horrors in my bellhousing, explains the problems of engine removal on page 3

Nope, won’t clear the bracket.

Nope, won’t clear the bracket.

I didn’t know if that was remove / remittance. I’ll look it up, cheers.

Wow!! :open_mouth:

Yes there is a thick plastic cover LHS that has to come off. They advocate replacing it with a thin metal plate and screws to match.

What a Ba$tard. Finally got a day to look at the bike. There is no way to get to the 2 screws in that little plate as one hides behind a frame member - only way to get the motor out was to remove alternator and the front engine cover with that bloody little cover still in place to get the motor far enough forward to hoik the tail end up and drop the gearbox.

I then removed the clutch bell housing and clutch plate to discover a spring from tthe clutch plate cush lodged in between the pressure plate and the clutch diaphragm springs preventing the pressure plate from moving away from the clutch plate per se…

Any advice gratefully received

I’ve now established that the bloody spring is the inner spring of one of the Clutch Damper springs…

The Outer spring is still in place on the clutch plate, but can easily be removed with fingers…

I am sourcing a clutch plate as I write and wonder if any other Stelvio Owners have had this happen to their clutches?

Is there anything else I should check now I have the beast in bits?

That totally explains what happened then when it failed, clutch lever going slack etc., clutch ‘stuck on’.

Ever heard of the clutch plate throwing out its damper springs before?

Sadly yes, not sure this model tho. Something on the American forums I think.
