SummerCamp update

Limited tickets left folks. Only four weeks to go!
MGCGB Summercamp update June 2024.

Following a successful visit to the Powis Arms and a meeting with the senior staff here are some notes that may prove useful to those thinking about, or intending to visit, this year MGCGB Summercamp from July 12th to 14th.

NB there is a wedding at the nearby Walcot Hall over the weekend and this will make the pub and surrounding area busy. The wedding won’t affect our use of the camp site.

Timetable.

Thursday 11th pm, Set up crew arrive to put up signage at and approaching the site.

Friday 12th The control tent is large, red and near the gate. If there is no one there we won’t be far away. Pub opens from 12noon. Food from the restaurant lunch and evening. Community shop will have a good selection of snacks, pies, drinks etc. If you wish to eat at the pub in the evening please pre-book a table and mention that you’re attending the Summercamp. If you are travelling in a group or meeting friends there please block book.

The campsite is a two minute walk from the pub via an access path. The site is level and has electric hook ups. It can cater for camper vans but won’t suit a Winnebago type vehicle. Check the pub website for more information. There is a brick building housing male and female showers and a wash room for dishes etc. The facilities are roomy, clean and well appointed. Not the Ritz and yet better than many camp sites that I have visited. Access is via a driveway to the right of the pub as you look at the frontage. It will be clearly signed.

Saturday 13th Control tent will be open from morning to early evening. Club volunteers will be around throughout. 10am Breakfast baps available from the pub’s excellent BBQ in the courtyard which is a few yards from the campsite. BBQ for burgers etc including non meat options will be running from lunch through to the evening. Hot drinks urn in the bar. Time to relax and explore the village or further afield.

Sunday 14th.Similar to Saturday but shorter. Control tent will be open from morning to early afternoon. Club volunteers will be around throughout. 10am Breakfast baps available from the pub’s excellent BBQ in the courtyard which is a few yards from the campsite. BBQ for burgers etc including non meat options will be running from lunch through to the evening. Hot drinks urn in the bar. Time to relax and say your farewells before exploring the village or further afield as you make your way home.

Extra nights. If you wish to stay beyond Sunday please make a note when booking and we can make sure that you keep your pitch. If it’s a last minute decision on Sunday then you may be disappointed.

Non camping accommodation. The pub’s rooms are already booked. Other options are listed in the link below.

Volunteers! We will need setup and knock down crews for Thursday and Sunday afternoons. We will also need people to work in the control tent and generally support guests. It’s a small event so not too onerous. Please contact me if you wish to help out.

Looking forward to the weekend.
