T3 and California Lower Frame Rails

Hi Everyone. I have a 1980 T3 and want to change the lower frame rails to a set with foot boards as per the California. My question is ’ Which model California would have frame rails which could be used as a direct replacement for those on my T3? Also, if anyone has a set of rails and footboards, brake and gear change fixtures and fittings I would be most interested.
Many thanks in advance
Dave

Hi Dave! In theory, the lower frame rails from any of the Tonti frames might be interchangeable, but when it comes to the later Calis (later than T3), you might find subtle differences, if only in the length of linkages. If no T3 Cali donors appear, then Converts had a similar lower rail/footboard set (I think), but I’d be inclined to check the parts book for similarities and possible differences.

Good luck. One word of advice: given the number of new to CaliT3 owners who post about it, it is clear that the heel-toe gear change, and raised brake lever are not everyone’s cup of tea. You might want to try one and see. Personally, though, I think it’s something that takes a little while to get used to. Some never do, apparently. Hope this helps!

Would post also on the FB Buy/Sell page, if you haven’t already. And consider Gambalunga and the MGCGB website Marketplace, too.

Hi Barry, thanks so much for your reply. I have a 250 Airone with heel toe gear change and faised brake lever so hopefully shouldn’t be too much hassle… There are a set of supposedly T3 Cali bottom rails for sale on ebay so might go for those as they’re a good price. Will also have a look on Marketplace and Gambalunga too. Thanks again
Dave
