Terminological inexactitude.. or is it?

OK seasoned Guzzzisti. I am not yet of your ilk being a complete newbie to Moto Guzzis but trying to learn and.. a topic I am confussed about (yes, confussed) regarding gearbox/ final drive discussions.

I am unfamiliar with the sheer magnitude of the variants and iterations of this brand’s glorious 100 years plus history and enjoying trying to familiarise myself with at least the broad categories.

Hence, my question. I have just bought a ‘23 V100 Mandello and seeing posts about ‘gearbox oil changes’ and finding responses that are talking about two different things?

Just read a couple related to draining and changing gearbox oil on non V100 engines. My possibly wrong assumption is that the V100, shorter engine, shares common engine and gearbox lubrication? Is that the case? i.e. a unitised configuration.

Final drive, to me at least, means shaft bevel gear/final drive, a couple of feet removed from the gearbox itself.

I apologise if this seems to be either dumb or plain paranoid but am I missing something? I have not crawled under the bike to see if there is some hidden gearbox drain plug lurking under there as I store the bike remote from my home.
This may seem a petty concern unless I am completely missing a maintenance task or check I should be aware of OR could V100 owners refer please to the final drive as what it is?

If I am being a complete ‘tool’ don’t hold back? Just tell me straight.

Yes the V100 is unit construction and yes the final drive is an alternative term for the bevel box.

The above is taken from the Mandello owners manual, but can be done by yourself after removing the rear wheel. Buy a 65mm socket and a long handled torque wrench and you can access the filler cap through the spokes of the brake disc. In the Stelvio Service Manual they call this changing the transmission oil, and the picture for re-filling is below. I suggest you download a service manual from the Piaggio website to double check Having the tools to remove the rear wheel is going to also be helpful next time you want a new tyre!

Thanks for that input and confirmation the V100 has a common lubrication engine and gearbox. Kinda figured that was the case.

Sorry to be picky but in my world a gearbox is a gearbox and a final drive/final transmission/bevel gear makes it clearer what is being referred to.

Yes indeedy, I have both user manual and workshop manual down loaded. I’m confident of having no issue changing the final drive oil. Thanks for the clarification though.
