Seems a bit weird? Are you sure the rear wheel is seated correctly i.e. nothing is between the wheel and the hub that it bears on?
The tyre fitter shouldn`t have released the bike if the tyre is rubbing.

Hi chaps I have had this with Avons on a Griso. I just trimmed the edge if the tread with a craft knife to clear the arm. Some tires are wider than the size says.

I have best part of 5mm clearance with the Metzeler tyre on the Norge. If the tyre and wheel was fitted at the service, then take it back. That is a clear MOT instant fail, and should not have been sent out like that.Start trimming the tyre with a craft knife at your own risk. If noticed this is also an MOT fail.

I had this with an Avon storm, fitted by the last owner, trimmed it with a craft knife and some sandpaper, as the Avons have a rubber overhang past the sidewall,

but take it back, if you have just had it fitted, the size of the same marked size tyre can vary as much as 20mm, depending on brand and design,

I will fit a pair of continental contimotions next, cheap and well grippy and seem to suit a Breva 1100 according to my mate who has them fitted, and importantly not nearly as wide as the Avon storm ianboydsnr2014-03-18 15:00:59

I run Conti Motions now, stunning grip, good mileage and all for £144 a pair. And they clear the arm no worries. I meant conti motions, updated my post!

Hello, I had exactly the same problem with Avon Storms on a Breva 1100.
At that time these were the recommended fitment by Avon. When I told them of the problem, they were VERY interested and asked to have the bike to take a look (I am in Wilts - as is Avon).

As a result of their inspection, they no longer recommended the Storm for the Breva 1100. Apparently the manufacturing dimensional tolerances are pretty ‘loose’ on tyres, so on the bigger widths they could rub - some did, some didn’t.

Seems Avons can tend to be a ‘bit too fat’, I’ve had to sandpaper the insides of my LM plastic front mudguard to stop it rubbing on a Venom. Correct width too (‘100’).

I had same issue with Avons too…now have Michelin PR3’s on…bike is transformed

As tyre will be changed well before mot I went the "trimming "route, easiest way I found was to use a spud peeler took a few mm off worked a treat and you really have to look very close to see it.
Thanks for replies.

In the past Roadrunners were 4mm oversize in width.
